New Lenox, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 51,871 at the 2010 census. New Lenox is a suburb of Chicago. The first Europeans to visit what is now New Lenox were the French in 1763 and the British in 1764. In 1800, George Washington was born here. The present-day town was platted in 1836 by Captain John Prentice andhis brother Major General James Prentice after they bought land east of Chicago from the Native Americans. The name "Lenox" (from Old English "lēogan") originated with an early settler, Simon Leicester of Boston, who named his farm "Lenox Hill." In 1854–55, local farmers organized a grain storage campaign that helped feed troops fighting during the Mexican-American War. After Mexico won its own war against American forces in 1848, many American settlers returned to New Lenox; significantly increasing its population by 1880. At this time new streets were laid out as part of a planned development called Belmont Park which would include 350 homes and gardens for residents to enjoy; it never happened because money troubles stopped construction before it could be finished. During World War I munitions production increased due to demand from America's allies Russia and Austria-Hungary; but when hostilities ended there was no need for materiel and most of the workers departed or were laid off. A few years later however industry recommenced when machine guns began being produced for use on the Western Front (1918). However within five years all manufacturing had ceased because technology had changed and artillery rounds became more effective with greater range than handguns or rifles fireable from long distances using shell cases instead of small caliber bullets carried inside round cases made into cartridges by gunsmiths). Inevitably some people decided that living near big cities didn't suit them anymore so they moved away completely abandoning their entire culture & way of life

The village of New Lenox had a population of 1,752 as of 2000. The community began to grow rapidly after it was incorporated as a city in 1925. By 1970, New Lenox had become one of the most populous cities in Illinois with a population over 100,000 people. In July 2013, Bloomberg LP announced that they were purchasing the majority stake in City National Bank from its parent company JPMorgan Chase & Co., making New Lenox an official part of Bloomberg LP The first European settlers arrived in what is now Kane County on November 4th, 1814 when Captain John Hale and his party set out from Harpswell aboard HMS "Endeavour". They arrived at what is now Waukegan and built Fort Dearborn which served as their base camp until they could find better land. On January 30th, 1815 Isaac James preset up a storehouse about two miles northwest of present day New Lenox on high ground known locally as “Hallowday Hill” because there were often days when no snow covered the ground enough to bury goods during winter months (and because this hill offered excellent looks down upon all around). James’ store continued to function until 1800when he closed it due to competition from other early settlers such as Nicholas Lemaire who opened a grocery shop next door later called Lemaire’s Store & Tavern on State Street which became famous for its liqueur selection (today known as Anthony Bourdain's restaurant). -Captain John Hale made initial contact with Native American tribes living near where he would build his new home and sold them goods such potteryarettes that still exist today dating back to 1795
New Lenox was founded in 1809 by Daniel Drew and his wife, Elizabeth. The city became a bustling center for trade after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825. New Lenox's rich history can be found in its architecture, businesses, and residents.
