Scope mounts are devices that allow a rifle to be aimed at a target beyond the reach of the shooter. They were typically used in artillery and cavalry units during World War II and thereafter, but have also been used by hunters and shooters in other forms. The first scope mounts were made by Hans Newmark of Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1939. By 1945, there were over 1,000 companies making scope mounts worldwide. Scope mounts have come into common use among sports shooters, target shooters, police officers and military snipers. The first shotgun scopes were developed for muzzleloading guns. Muzzleloader rifles with sights on the barrel could not be fired unless the gun wasmounted on an appropriate bracket or stand which detracted from accuracy. To solve this problem early shotguns had both windage and elevation adjustment knobs located on different parts of the stock (and sometimes on separate bases) so that they could be rotated turret style around their entire bore axis without having to remove the barrel fromthe gun’s action. These early shotguns lacked iron sights so these adjustments had to be made either by hand or with a telescope or eyepiece accessory which added overhead cost and inconvenience when travelling long distances with these weapons

The village was named in honor of Prince Franz Ferdinand, Archduke von Habsburg, who was assassinated at Sarajevo in 1908. The area that now makes up Palatine was originally part of present-day Hungary. In 1847, the United States invaded Hungary and occupied most of what is today Transylvania. As a result, many Hungarians living in southern Transylvania chose to move north into what is now Illinois. When America gained independence from Great Britain in 1776, it inherited most of British-controlled Hungary as well as Transylvania. The new nation decided to subdivide Hungarian lands into independent counties and offered these land grants to American settlers. Among these were those who would later become known as thePalatine pioneers. One such settler was George Washington Carver, who purchased 1,600 acres (4 km²) within present-day Palatine from Nicholas Ruzina in 1857. Carver quickly began developing the land into farmland and cattle ranching operation which he continued until his death in 1938. By 1870, there were over 2,000 people living in Palatine with about 150 businesses operated by local farmers and businessmen. In 1893, President Grover Cleveland designated Palatine as an unofficial town within Chicago on account of its importance for commerce and its location near Dearborn Avenue and State Street bridge across the riverbeds which connected Chicago with Indiana Territory along Lake Michigan shoreline

Palatine is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Palatine is bordered by Skokie to the north, North Woods to the east, and Winnetka to the south. The village of Palatine was incorporated in 1837. The name comes from two German words: palatinus meaning " lofty," and ita meaning " field." The Village of Palatine was platted on November 20, 1837 by John Haggerty and James Prentice. It had a population of only 50 residents when it became a village. In 1840, George Stephenson donated land for a public square which became known as Stephenson Square today. In 1847-48, work began on what would become Chicago's first railroad station - Union Station - located near current-day Wicker Park on the Northwest Side of town. At that time, there were no railroads in Illinois! Construction continued until 1851 when tracks were laid down connecting Chicago with other southern Illinois cities including Peoria and Carbondale. On October 9th 1860 – one day after Abraham Lincoln was elected President – Palatine's father-in-law saw him walk up State Street towards his home for dinner just before he entered into office at Douglas Park there! Abraham Lincoln stopped short at what he thought might be an agricultural property belonging to his relative Peter Armitage instead (it actually belonged to John Pullen). After learning that Mr Lincoln had seen him coming home from dinner rather than going inside (and because he could see people living in single family dwellings back then), Armitage offered his house/farmstead for use as presidential headquarters during his term as President... even though it still stands today outside of town limits! Abraham Lincoln chose not to take advantage of this offer and walked right past it... but we can forget about Peter Armitage ever having any claim whatsoever to those acres now ;) John Fitzgerald Kennedy Sr., who grew up close by in Winnetka also attended school here; however JFK never graduated from high school so his education ended there too :( . He did manage some pretty impressive feats though like becoming Mayor of New York City & running for Governor twice!!!

The Palatine neighborhood of Chicago was once a part of the city's nucleus. It was developed around Lincoln Park and the palatial estates of wealthy landowners, such as Daniel Webster and Andrew Carnegie. The area became popular for its parks, canals, theaters, and other cultural attractions. In 1847, John Northey purchased a tract of land in what is now Palatine from the Winnetka family. Northey built two homes there - one called "The Hermitage" (now a museum) and the other called "Northey House". The house still stands today and is used as an office building by Northwestern University.
