Prospect Heights, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,391 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Chicago. In 1940 Harry Wirthman sold his business outright to Joseph Biddle who renamed it “Biddle's Guns & Ammo Store” after himself (it still exists today as a retail store). After World War II ended there was an increase in demand for handguns because of concerns about communism becoming dominant throughout the world. The number of gun cleaning businesses increased as well but because new guns were being imported constantly these businesses weren't able to keep up with the competition; this led to many establishments closing their doors within a few years from 1949 through 1957 when all but one firearms store within blocks of each other went out of business due to oversupply from importation quotas set by the US government.

Prospect Heights, Illinois is a small town located in DuPage County, Illinois. The population was 5,807 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village was organized on February 22, 1871 by John P. Ryan and his wife Eliza Gates Ryan as a result of the partition of DuPage County between Illinois and Indiana. In 1916 Prospect Heights became one of two towns in Du Page County that joined the Metropolitan Chicago Council (MCC). In 1982, after years of planning and $5 million in investments from various community groups, Prospect Heights erected its first shopping center—the Park Plaza Shopping Center—which replaced an earlier shopping center that served as the local government's primary office building for more than 30 years. That same year also saw the opening of Prospect Heights' first high school: Proctor High School (). In 2006, the Village elected their first mayor – Richard Mancini – who has held office since then.
The area now known as Prospect Heights was once a small, rural community in the far northwest corner of Illinois. At its peak in the early 1800s, Prospect Heights had a population of around 100 people and consisted of just a few houses on mainstreet. The town slowly declined over the years, until it vanished completely in the 1920s. Today, much of what is now known as Prospect Heights was built up during the late 19th century when large amounts of land were auctioned off for development in Chicago. Many old homes and businesses remain standing today, testament to how successful these developers were at creating new neighborhoods out of nothing.
