rolling Meadows is an unincorporated community in Cook County, Illinois, located on the border of Rolling Meadows and La Grange Township. The community was founded in 1892 by John H. Ryder, a farmer and contractor who moved from Mayfield, Ohio. The first target holders were made out of wood with nails through the middle to hold them together. They were shot at a local fair using rifles belonging to the farmers in town. By 1907, there were two shooting galleries in Rolling Meadows and people would come from all over to use them. In 1912, Rollmown Rifle Club was formed which functioned as the governing body for the shooting galleries within Rolling Meadows Village. This club helped promote hunting and target shooting within the village as well as providing socialization opportunities for its members. Starting in 1913,rolledmown rifle club began exhibiting firearms at various shows across Cook County including Chicago, Milwaukee and Stonington Michigan among others. In 1916 they formed their own national organization called American Rifleman which continues to this day

The village has a history dating back to 1871 and it was incorporated as a town on November 1, 1887. The village is located in the northwestern corner of Cook County and is bordered by McHenry County to the south, Kane County to the west, and Will County to the north. Rolling Meadows consists of three villages: Rolling Meadows Village, Findlay Township, and Arlington Heights Township. The village had a total area of , making it one of the smallest villages in Cook County by land area. The village was founded on October 15th, 1871 when railroad magnate Edmund Ewing purchased 309 acres (123 ha) northwest of present-day Rolling Meadows from James Averill for $5 per acre ($/ha). The purchase included a mill which would produce flour for local restaurants and grocery stores. In 1889–90, Rollings new library opened with 860 books and an additional 150 periodicals including "The American Journal" (now "American Journalism Review"). That same year also saw the opening of two other primary schools; East Central High School (now North Park Academy) in Findlay Township and John Fenton Elementary School in Arlington Heights Township. In 1906–07 Rolling Meadows added two more schools: West Central High School (now Stevenson Middle School) in Arlington Heights Township and North Park Academy in Findlay Township which became known as South Side High School subsequent to its annexation into Rolling Meadows Village
