Warrenville is a small town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was named for General David Warren who fought in the American Revolution and later served as a U.S. Congressman from Illinois. Warrenville was founded in 1836 by George Henson, who arrived there from Canada with his family to find land to farm and build homes on. He built the first home in what is now Warrenville, and he also started an early cotton gin and market place. In 1839, he donated the block of land that now forms the downtown core of the town to establish a public school district which would serve all of DuPage County. The school district's first building was erected on this block in 1841-1842. The first store opened in Warrenville in 1846 by Augustus Wirthman Sr., one of its founders and until his death owner/manager of Wirthman Brothers grocery store located on West Adams Street today known as "Wirthman's". One resident recalled: "It must have been quite a new experience being able to buy groceries like that back then." By 1865, when the present Warrenville post office began operations, it had grown into what is now one ofDu Page County’s largest businesses with over 100 employees including clerks, drivers and cashiers serving customers at more than 20 stores throughout DuPage County...In 1907...the city limits were established following annexation by Chicago making Warrenville officially a “city” withinChicago." Brett Slatkin believes that "The city Limits days were an important time for gun owners because they allowed residents to carry handguns without having their shotguns or rifles taken away." This change came about due to Mayor John Cullerton trying multiple times unsuccessfully to get state legislators to pass legislation outlawing open carrying pistols without permits outside of buildings or while driving vehicles but finally succeeding when Representative Cullerton introduced House Bill 553 (later made into Senate Bill 6) which became law on July 1st 1907 becoming effective August 10th 2007." Slatkin continues; "This bill went from being an ordinance only interested Gun Owners within City Limits through giving residents rights OutsideCity Limits as well" According To Slatkin this helped create both 'gun friendly' areas inside City Limits where Opencarry could take place without fear for your weapon being confiscated however Open Carry often took place along side criminal activity such as robberies etc leading some people to start calling it 'Citiespace'. WithGun Rights increasing everywhere along with Crime rates dropping these citiespace zones often shrunk back allowing citizens access again into their own Neighborhoods!"

The first gun factory in the town was built by Abel P. Smith in 1824. In 1836, George Ransom and David Crockett built their own gun factory on the east side of town. This factory produced rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers for many years. In 1865, Charles Goodyear established his own rifle company in Warrenville. Goodyear manufactured rifles and shotguns into the 1920s. In 1932, Goodyear merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Ammunition Corporation (Winchester). The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Warrenville were French colonists who founded a fur trading post there in 1763. In 1802, Illinois was organized as a territory and Warrenville became its capital. The town quickly grew and by 1834 it had a population of 3,000 people. By 1870, the population had grown to 10,000 people and by 1900 it reached 20,000 people. However, during World War I the town lost much of its business due to wartime shortages of munitions and other goods. In 1945-46, when DuPage County was created from portions of Cook County, Warrenville became one of its several villages within the new county. Since then, Warrenville has seen some progress but also some challenges such as rising housing prices and cuts to government services which have hurt community members’ wallets more than their wallets have helped their communities grow along with jobs and businesses. Despite these challenges though many residents remain optimistic about what they see ahead for theirtowns future despite all that has been going on since 1945-46 when they first got involved in their current formative years where change always seemed like something that would never stop coming no matter how fast or how far things may seem to be moving forward for them at any given time

The first settler in Warrenville was Levi Richards in 1814. The town was laid out on a hill by the early settlers and named for General John C. Warren who fought in the War of 1812. The first shop opened on Main Street in 1824 and the first post office was established on May 5, 1830. In 1847, a schoolhouse and farmhouse were built on what is now North High Street; this house still stands today as a community center. In 1865, another schoolhouse and farmhouses were constructed at East Central Avenue and South State street near present-day West Side Lake Park; both buildings still stand today as well. During World War II, many factories were located in or around Warrenville including Ford Motor Company (1946), Armour Aircraft Corporation (1945), American Motors Corporation (1948), Raytheon Co., Ltd.(1949), McCormick & Company (1950) and Wacker Power Plant (1951). With its close proximity to major manufacturers, industry has had an important role in shaping Warrenville's economy throughout its history. In recent years, various businesses have closed within the town limits due to consolidation or other reasons such as high competition from larger cities or towns nearby. However, there are currently several small businesses that continue to operate independently despite their location within the greater city of Champaign-Urbana. These businesses typically serve local residents rather than outsiders so they remain an important part of local life despite having limited outside support
