Kendallville, Indiana is a small town located in Porter County, Indiana. The population was 5,836 at the 2010 census. As of the 2016 American Community Survey, Kendallville had a population of 6,093. The town was founded in 1871 by Gideon Kendall and his wife Esther. In 1883, the town's first school opened and in 1896 its first grocery store. The post office began operations in 1902. The history of gun magazines begins with Gideon Kendall's creation of the first magazine in Kendalville. This magazine was designed to provide ammunition for local shooting contests that were occasionally held in the community. The business continued to be operated by Gideon and Esther Kendall until it merged with a neighboring business in 1922 to form the Kendall-Cigarette Company Incorporated (later known as American Ammunition). During World War II, American Ammunition produced munitions for both the United States military and Nazi Germany. After the war ended, American Ammunition reverted back to its original name but only operated as a retail store until it closed its doors for good on October 15th, 1984 after more than seventy years of continuous operation within Kendallville limits!

Today Kendallville is one of the smallest towns in Hancock County with only 596 residents living within its limits combined with neighboring Addison Township which has a total population of 910 residents as well as Brownstown which has a total population of 794 residents

Today, Kendallville remains a busy community with many businesses and restaurants dotting its streets.
