One of the first businesses to sell handguns was Folsom & Sons Pistol Shop located on State Street. The shop functioned as a place where customers could buy guns and ammo from various manufacturers. In 1892, J.W. Folsom patented his own design for a handgun that allowed the user to rotate the barrel in order to fire multiple rounds at once. This innovation became known as the “gun swivel” and it quickly became popular among shooters across America. On December 5, 1847, Wabash County was organized. The first courthouse in Wabash County was built in 1851. On February 26, 1861, the Confederate States of America seceded from the United States and war began. On April 14, 1862, General Ulysses S. Grant advanced on Vicksburg and arrived at the city on May 6. Vicksburg was surrendered on July 4th and Wabash County became a Union Territory.
Wabash is a city in central Indiana, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. Wabash is the largest city in the Wabash County seat and one of two cities within Wabash County. It is part of the Lafayette, IN-based Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first post office for what is now Wabash was established on October 2, 1837, by Samuel French and James Gorman. The town had a population of about 25 people when it became a full Township on January 1, 1854. On November 14, 1861, it became an incorporated town with a population of 1,000+. In 1925 it annexed part of Terre Haute to form a larger municipality. The original name for Wabash was "Vermilion". A local resident named Jephcott suggested that they change their name to "Wabash" because "the river there [Wabasha] is so beautiful." After much insistence from locals and citizens alike including then Mayor George Wise and Postmaster General Amos Eaton (who also donated land for the town's initial plat), Vermilion eventually changed its name to WABASH on July 12th 1865 in honor of General John Wayne who fought during the American Civil War as a colonel in the Union army. This event took place at an encampment near present day Dunkirk Road and High Street where General Wayne gave speeches advocating secession from Great Britain. When complete with new street names and incorporation into neighboring Terre Haute – now known as Evansville – formal ceremonies were held at what would become WABASH'S FIRST CITY CONFERENCE hall located on Main Street between First Avenue South and Fourth Avenue North - later renamed State University Park - which served as both cultural & civic center until 1967 when all three municipalities consolidated under one roof becoming one entity once again - this time called "WABASH COUNTY". Today’s thriving economy owes its success to numerous industries that have anchored themselves here over recent decades: banking/finance; manufacturing; health care/hospitality; education/research; transportation services; retail trade; professional services such as law enforcement/judicial service; government contracting/public works...Innovation has played an important role too: Overcoming traditional challenges like reliability challenges associated with online transactions through technology advancements like electronic signatures or artificial intelligence (AI) has helped drive economic growth for businesses across sectors across diverse industries including healthcare...Today’s downtown core features world-renowned restaurants like Szechuan Garden or Benares Grill & Lounge along with several other high-quality retailers while suburbanites enjoy access to world-class shopping malls just minutes away via I-65 or I-70 exits off US Highway 231). The history of this city dates back more than 100 years! Today’s vibrant downtown area started out small but definitely had some big ideas going on! At first everything was done either by hand or using local materials that could be easilyprocured… Starting around 1896 when regular mail service began coming through Indianapolis–the process used horse drawn wagons brought overland–variety store owners started setting up shop inside what today is known as Central Market Square! From here they sold goods directly to customers! Eventually word got out about this amazing market square which led to more business being set up outside especially thanks to trains running through town daily bringing goods all over Indiana! All sorts of products and ingredients were sourced from all over Indiana making this “ contaminated ground ” very fertile for entrepreneurs like Phyllis McCormick who operated her own flour mill right next door… By 1906 there were already large brick buildings standing side by side not far from where Central Market Square currently stands! This suggests that things weren’t going too bad for these early pioneers if you want your business up and running you pretty much need space!! Today we can see evidence of many different businesses setting up shop right around Central Market Square back then including dozens OF tailor shops!, department stores,, restaurants,, hotels etc….. One thing we do know however&……A LOT has happened since then&….. particularly within THE LAST TWENTY YEARS!!! So without further ado lets take a look at some key pieces in our history………………….

Wabash is a city in the U.S. state of Indiana, and the seat of Wabash County. The population was 397 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Wabash County was Nicholas Hahn in 1814. The county was organized on November 3, 1827, from portions of Posey and Hendricks counties. In 1829, it became an election precinct for the new town of Terre Haute; by 1840, it had become an outpost for other nearby settlements such as Danville and Crawfordsville. By 1860, Wabasha had a population of 530 residents and was designated as its seat. In 1871, Wabasha became one of two towns in Indiana to receive electric power from General Electric Company's subsidiary American Transmission Company; this made it the first Indianapolis suburb to have electricity! In 1898-1901, local farmers formed a cooperative to grow corn on their fields near present day Terre Haute; this led to laterdeveloped grain production throughout central Indiana around Terre Haute and Wabash City proper (then known as "the Township"). With rapid growth in both business and population over time, infrastructure need grew too - including roads (including US 31), water systems (including The White River), schools ( incorporated into public school districts ), churches (with pastors commissioned by denominations ), businesses/residential areas (), shopping malls (), hospitals (), etc., which led to annexation by neighboring communities over time (). Finally ratified by referendum on May 9th 2002 following three years of public debate/, annexation forms part of today’s downtown core () with government services located within blocks or close proximity ().
