The Wabash Railroad constructed a line from Evansville, Indiana to the city of Wabash in 1853. The company built two stations in the city: one on the east side of Main Street and one on the west side.
Wabash, Indiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute metropolitan area. Wabash was founded by fur traders in 1814 and became a city in 1893. Wabash is known for its agricultural products and located near I-69 and US-41/US-890s exit routes. The first settler in what would become Wabash County was James Ketchum, who arrived on July 29, 1814, with his family from Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin Territory. Ketchum named his new location "Wabash" for General David Porter's brigade that haddefeated the Native American forces at Fallen Timbers on July 9, 1813; this event helped spur western settlement in what would become Wabash County. The first post office was established at Wabash on October 12, 1816; it was moved to Terre Haute ten years later when that city became the statewide capital of Indiana under territorial government changes effective November 1, 1785). Fur traders began arriving in greater numbers starting around 1830 as demand for fur increased along wagon routes across North America. By 1840 there were over 100 fur traders living or working out of what would eventually become WabASH county including Moses Shadman (1792-1875), John Richardson (1794-1868), Solomon Marks (1800-1872), Daniel Houghton (1800-1853) and Isaac Kelley (1800-1864). In 1857 Samuel Morse opened a post office at Hollywood outside present day Terre Haute after sending mail eastward through Wayne County using wagons between Hollywood and Mount Carmel Junction on the Ohio River Gorge; this service continued until 1889 when all mail within Indiana except for Agriculture Department notices was moved to Indianapolis under then Secretary of State Nicholas Batchelder's new system which unified all county posts throughout the state into one structure.. During this time many mills were built such as those operated by Prentice & Company which produced flourmeal into the early 20th century, Houghton Mill which manufactured cloth from various fabrics such as flannel and checks until destroyed by fire in 1922, Morse Mill which made bricks beginning in 1860 followed by other smaller mills until 1965 when it closed down due to competition from more recent factories.. In 1896 local businessmen organized a successful campaign to have their town renamed "Terre Haute" after then Governor Simon Tillett ; however because no single person could come up with an attractive name they reverted back to their original spelling - "WABASH". In 1907 both TerreHaute Municipal Authority and Village Council decided that it would be more practical to operate Common Schools within their respective jurisdictions instead of having separate boards providing education for each community so Common School District No 3 operates today as one district with three elementary schools: Pleasant View Elementary School serving students grades PreKindergarten thru 5th grade; Highland Heights Intermediate School serving grades 6th thru 8th grade; and West Side Intermediate School serving grades 9th thru 11th grade.. A high school also exists within Village Council boundaries but serves only residents residing within its borders: Miami Valley High Schoolserving students grades 12th thru 4th grade while Lafayette High Schoolserving students grades 5th thru 8th grade experiences occasional traffic problems due toUTF8 encoded emails received during business hours

Wabash, Indiana is a small town in central Indiana that has had its share of history. The first people to live in the area were the Pottawatomies, who started living in what is now Wabash County in 1814. In 1818, the first school was built in Wabash County and it was called the Indian School. It was used as a training ground for Indian scouts. There were also some white people living in and around Wabash until about 1830 when they all left for Illinois because of the westward expansion of the United States. The first post office was founded at Wabash on November 25, 1830. The name “Wabash” originated from an American Revolutionary War battle where General George Washington’s forces defeated a British force under Lt.-Colonel John Butler. The local storekeeper, James Aiken, gave his land to the town for $1 per acre. The first courthouse was built in 1836 and it served as the seat of government until 1840 when it moved to Plainfield. When Wabash became a zoned community on December 1, 1907, it had 446 residents and consisted of 6 blocks with a total area of 11 acres (4 hectares). On July 14th, 1912, Zoning Board No. 2 approved an amendment to Zoning Ordinance No.(1907) which increased density by 10%. This increase led to construction of more homes and businesses along State Street between First Avenue and Smith Road which helped spur economic development within the community over time. The population peaked at 1,912 on October 15th 1951 when election results showed 753 residents registered to vote out of 1,811 ballots cast! However this number decreased shortly thereafter due mainly to out-migration from nearby Plainfield which began during this time period as well as other factors such as declining agricultural production throughout much of central Indiana combined with dramatic increases in other types of employment outside of rural areas beginning around that time frame
