Bettendorf, Iowa is a small town located in the eastern part of the United States. The population was 4,848 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Bettendorf County and the surrounding rural area has a total land area of just over 169 square miles. The climate in Bettendorf is mild to cool with an average temperature of 26 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. There are no major natural resources in Bettendorf, but it does have several small businesses that provide goods and services to its residents. The first inhabitants of Bettendorf were Native Americans who lived near what is now downtown. In 1847, John Wickersham built a sawmill on the north side of town and began operations which would continue until 1865 when he sold his mill to J.H. De Witt. In 1887, Samuel Fenton opened a flour mill on South Fourth Street which continued operation until 1907 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1907, Harry Hickey bought the flour mill from Fenton and started production of paper products including tissue paper and educational materials for schools in Bettendorf and around Des Moines County. By 1920, Hickey's company had produced over 1 million pounds of paper per day and employed 100 people! Paper products continued to be produced by Hickey's company until 1978 when it merged with Allied Biscuit Corporation to form American Paper Products (APP). APP remains one of the largest producers of office papers in North America today with more than 350 employees! In 1984, Bettendorf established itself as an agricultural center with a focus on corn crops such as maize, beans, cottonseed oil (Conte), potatoes (Dunn) and hay (Healey). Today there are several large commercial farms that produce fruits/veggies/nuts/seeds; dairy; poultry; hog production; beekeeping; sheep herding; grain storage capacity for winter wheat/ oats etc.; among others! These businesses contribute significantly to local economic growth while also providing jobs for locals who work on these farms or within their parent companies!

In 1845, George Stephenson submitted a new design for an agricultural safetyear which became known as the Agricultural Ear muff. This device was later redesignated as the Shooter's EarMuff in 1955 by US Patent 3,686,362. Ear muffs have been around since at least 1837! However it wasn't until 1845 that we got our hands on something truly special - the Agricultural Ear muff! This device has proven itself time and again in various ways; most notably when it was redesignated as the Shooter's EarMuff in 1955!

Bettendorf, Iowa is a small town in Mahaska County, Iowa, located about 20 miles east of Sioux City. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. Bettendorf was founded in 1873 by John D. Bettendorf and his family. It was named for him after the city of Berlin, Germany where he had been born in 1829. The first settler in Bettendorf was John A. Crouch who arrived in 1872. He farmed land and built a log cabin which he used as his home until 1870 when he moved to Wapello Township and started a grocery store there that became known as the "Crouch Store". In 1902, homesteader George Fenton bought land near the present day intersection of US-61/US-218 and US-63/US-24A and began to build a farmstead known as Fenton's Bend which would become Bettendorf's most important landmark. In 1903, Standard Oil Company erected a frame oilrig on what is now State Highway 218 just south of Fenton's Bend and soon enough it became an important part of local life with people coming from all over to visit or work on the rig. In 1911, Harry Hirsch opened the first ice cream parlor in Bettendorf which quickly gained popularity among locals and visitors alike for its delicious treats. The parlor closed around 1960 but has since been restored as a museum open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm (closed Sundays). Today, Bettendorf is home to several businesses including two banks (One National Bank and One First National Bank), two post offices (Bettendorf Post Office #1 & #2), four churches (First Presbyterian Church - North Side lot & Bethany Lutheran Church - South Side lot), two schools (Secondary School #1 & Secondary School #2) as well as numerous other buildings dating back to early Settlers days like Mrs. Hirsch's house that still stands today next door to her original kitchen stove!
