Bettendorf, Iowa is a small town located in the south central portion of the state of Iowa. The population was 5,816 at the 2010 census. Bettendorf is part of the Bettendorf-Worthington, IA Micropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1851 by Captain George Bettendorf and his family. The first post office was established in 1853. In 1905, the city became a county seat and has since been named to several times as its county seat depended on changes in laws within each state that affected those living within it. The history of Bettendorf can be traced back to 1851 when Captain George Bettendorf and his family founded their village on the banks of the Des Moines River near what is now downtown Bettendorf. At that time, there were no settlements within reach of where they now live. However, with increasing trade along the river and new development outside of present day Bettendorf, traders and settlers began helping start new villages throughout this region including Bettendorf. In 1859, Captain George's oldest son Benjamin moved from Waukesha County, Wisconsin to help settle land east of present day Bettendorfer Lake which would eventually become part of what is today Vilas County. By 1861 there were twenty families living in taverns around town serving travelers passing through on their way north or southward across various rivers crossing into Illinois or Missouri - an early form of tourism which still operates today among those who visit these areas during these months! In 1865 General John US Grant arrived at Fort Dodge (now Dubuque) while campaigning against Abraham Lincoln in Illinois; he stopped at Fort Dodge en route home before continuing on to Omaha Nebraska where he met Ulysses S Grant later that year! This event helped spur more settlement westward as many saw opportunities for opportunity given Grant's signature victory! In 1870 Isaac Shively settled just east off Center Street between Third Street and Fourth Street - this area would later become known as Shively Park due to its location overlooking center square! Bettendonfs growth continued apace after becoming a courthouse for Polk County in 1875; however by 1888 it had grown so large that it needed its own building which was completed just two years later! From here on out most court proceedings took place out-of-town until finally settling back inside from time-to-time when necessary because space limitations prohibited it from taking up entire blocks!. This process continued until lambda law made services available locally effective all over the United States!! When Congress passed House Bill #737 making dual citizenship legal for all citizens regardless “of place” naturalized or not (it being understood then only Iowa Citizens could hold such rights), things changed once again – this time for good as together with other communities like Ottumwa (Iowa City), Cedar Rapids (Waterloo), Ames (Amesbury Heights), Waterloo (Waterloo Hills), Council Bluffs (Council Bluffs Heights) etc., they formed what is now known as The Great Lakes Region Micropolitan Statistical Area!!! As mentioned earlier – due to changing laws within each respective state affecting those residing therein over time – certain towns have experienced multiple changes during their histories resulting in several different titles/cities name change(s). For example: Berrien Springs underwent multiple name changes including Berrien Heights before becoming Demarest after Berrien Township merged into Rock Island County; Bloomingdale became Albion after village officials decided Bloomingdale wasn't big enough; Clearwater transitioned from Clearwater Township into Muskegon Heights before becoming Moline Beach when Muskegon County joined Cookcounty; Holland Grove became West Side after residents chose Holland Grove instead of Clearwater Township following a local election decision!!! Overall though much like any community & culture there are countless stories & anecdotes surrounding our beloved little town situated right smack dab between Des Moines & Burlington!!!!!
