The economy has been strong since World War II when large companies such as Wabash Railroad Corporation (later CSX) made big investments hereabouts and produced high-tech jobs in computer programming and information technology until they left for other countries during the late 1990s recession following technological advances which had not yet impacted North America adversely thereby creating many out-of-work manufacturing jobs which are still apparent today throughout much rural areas across all age groups throughout America due to technological advancements however less so within major urban areas characterized by more job security having moved away from these types of industries overall regionally resulting into an overall decline over time for rural economies

Cedar Falls, Iowa is a city in and the county seat of Cedar County, Iowa, United States. The population was 931 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Des Moines metropolitan area. Cedar Falls was founded by fur traders on the Des Moines River in 1839. The first post office was established in 1840. The town name derived from a falls on the river called Cedar creek or cedar-tree falls. In 1851, Cedar Rapids began to grow rapidly and Cedar Falls slowly replaced it as the most important center of early Iowa settlement. By 1870, all of present-day Cedar Falls had been founded and by 1890 it had become an independent city with its own government and economy. The first wave of immigrants to arrive in what would later be known as Cedar Falls arrived during one of America's largest expansions: the American Civil War. Many soldiers who had fought in Union army units were discharged from service at Fort Leavenworth when that Army post became available for civilian purposes after General George Biddle surrendered there on October 20, 1862. This large influx of men led to increased demand for housing, businesses, transportation and other services that local entrepreneurs could provide without warring with government bureaucrats over property rights or taxes. In 1865 two brothers named Augustus Lundberg started a leather business near downtown which quickly became successful due to its convenient location along main street and quick delivery times for supplies from suppliers east of the Mississippi River. During this time period many small family-owned businesses were also established around downtown including flour mills (the first such operation in Iowa), gristmills (the first operating in Iowa), wagon drive shops (later becoming trucking companies) and several tannery operations which processed animal hides into fabric before shipment downriver to eastern markets). During this time period too there were several churches built including one erected by ministers John Wickerham (of Wickerhamsville Presbyterian Church fame) and James Rankin just south of downtown – both structures still remain standing today as part of Downtown Cedar Rapids Historic District boundaries unchanged since their construction more than half a century ago! In 1907 Interstate 80 was constructed concurrent with US Highway 34 heading northeastward through central Iowa; however bypassing Cedar Falls entirely due to water shortages caused manufacturing activity along I-80 to decentralize slightly withinIowa while remaining largely clustered along US Highway 34/US Highway 21 interchange located approximately 7 miles north-northwest of downtown where highway travel created significant gridlock which hindered deliveries necessary for onward economic growth! Though unable completelyto escape traffic congestion withinits own borders during these earliest years CBD saw various attempts throughout the late 1920s & 1930s by local officials to attract larger commercial outpostsLtd related thereto like Menasha Truckloaders Incorporated & Richards Grain Company Ltd., both failures resulting essentially only increasing transportation costs (& forcing CBD residents even further towards accommodations just outside its walls!) finally culminating with plans announced by then Mayor Amos Karnes & City Manager Dean Henson back in December 1984 following years’ worth efforts by citizens committee chaired by then Democratic Representative Cliff Stroud!! Finally upon enactment thereof via A bill passed unanimously both chambers preceding Christmas Eve 1985!!! finally reducing nearly 2 decades’ worth COVIDDEN pollution resultant from chronic heavy truck traffic !!!)
Cedar Falls was founded in 1847, when a group of pioneers led by James K. Polk and John A. Roemer arrived from Illinois to build a wagon road between Iowa City and Burlington. The town grew rapidly, thanks to its location on the Mississippi River and its access to timber and irrigation water. In 1860, Cedar Falls became the capital of Iowa County; it remained so until 1871, when Des Moines took over. In 1903, Cedar Falls was renamed for General George Custer after his death in battle during the Indian Wars.
