Marshalltown, Iowa is home to the world's second-largest gun show. The four-day event features more than 1,500 exhibitors and buyers from around the globe. This year's show was held on Saturday, Aug. 14 and Sunday, Aug. 15. Gun parts history was a major focus of this year's show. The first gun parts exhibition in Marshalltown was held in 1892. At that time, weapons were made out of simple objects such as rocks and sticks. In 1911, an exposition called "The American Riflemen Exhibit" was organized by the American Rifle Manufacturers Association (ARMA) which covered items such as firearmssmithing services and NRA contests among others activities during that year's exposition weeklong visit to Marshalltown IA! In 1915, a new exposition called "The Western Gun Show" was organized by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). It covered topics such as shotgunsmithery services along with firearm demonstrations by top shooters from across the country! In 1919 another new expo called "The Eastern Gun Show" was organized by ARMA which focused on handguns including pistols & revolvers along with displays of antique firearms! In 1925 another expo called "Champion Exhibition Of Ammunition Products"was organized by NSSF which showcased products offered for sale including sporting goods Hummel rifle ammunition factory stocks From 1927 through 1961 there were threegun shows each calendar year due to World War II; however due to bad weather conditions all but one edition took place in 1942 because of Japan’s bombing raids throughout town...the 1943 edition being cancelled due to war crimes trials taking place nearby! Finally starting in 1963 there were only twogun shows per calendar year due to political reasons...one being in 1968 after President Lyndon Johnson announced he would be making it illegal for Americans to possess handguns without a license while also grandfathering existing handgun licenses In 1994 an annex had been added adjacent to Gate 2 where ammo dealers could set up shop next to the weapon rental counter; however this area quickly became known as 'the Ammo Section' because people selling ammo always outnumbered those renting guns !!! finally starting in 2007 an exhibit hall had been built adjacent to Gate 3 housing both rentable booths plus additional storage space for props & costumes
