The original north-south street grid still remains today with a few exceptions: Grand Avenue forms its eastern border while Main Street meets US Highway 6 southwest of town limits; East Fourth Street meets US Highway 3 across from IH 35E before continuing east as an expressway past downtown; and West Seventh Street meets US Highway 6 just east of downtown before terminating at State Road 7 northeast of town limits. In 1907, a two-story courthouse/ jail facility were built on what is now First Avenue near what is now Third Street NW corner with North Third Street NE corner where Post Office Building currently stands - this structure served as court house until 1955 when it burned down during a storm event that year This building also housed various other government buildings such as a health department from 1915 until 1945 when it closed due to budget cuts . Marshalltown, Iowa is a town in Woodbury County, Iowa, United States. The population was 993 at the 2010 census. The Marshalltown Post Office was founded in 1875. It is named after General James Marshall, who served as commanding officer of the Union Army during the American Civil War and as Minister to Russia. In 1892 it became part of West Omaha and later Omaha. The first store in Marshalltown was built by George W. Sorensen in 1892 on the east side of Main Street. Marshalltown's history can be traced back to its founding date on December 22, 1875, when General James Marshall passed through the area on his way from Council Bluffs to join Ulysses S. Grant in battle against Confederate forces near Vicksburg. Many local residents contributed their time and resources to help create what would become one of the most important towns in eastern Iowa: Marshfield had already been established as a small village with a few homes - including those of Captain John French and Major George Armstrong Custer - while West Omaha grew rapidly into a bustling agricultural center with over 100 businesses by 1900. The post office was first established at Marshalstown on November 3, 1876; it continued service until 1959. At that time it operated out of two small buildings located on North First Street and South Second Street; both were destroyed by fire in 1907). A new building was erected on North Third Street (now Fourth Street) in 1909; this structure still stands today (it is used as an educational wing for Grand Valley State University). In 1916 Marshalltown became part of Lincoln County when it was organized from Woodbury County; at that time all of Woodbury County except for portions along the Missouri River were consolidated into Lincoln County under President Wilson’s Executive Order No. 123 which also provided for voting rights for Native Americans within Lincoln County... In 1922 Sherman Wagoner opened his wagon dealership here which quickly became one of Eastern Iowa's largest merchants selling items such as groceries, hardware, cattle and vehicles... In 1924 Wagoner sold his business to J H McConnell who continued to operate it until he sold it years later to Bud Selig... By 1930 Marshfield had grown sufficiently large enough that Griggs Hardware Company moved into town from Cedar Rapids... Business went nuts there during World War II increasing production beyond anything ever seen before due largely to increased demand from military suppliers.... Sales stopped once war ended but continue up until present day because people like Bud Selig prefer buying things online now

Marshtown was founded in 1854 by Captain George Armstrong Marshall and his wife, Elizabeth. The town was named for General George Washington Marshall, who had served as a major general in the U.S. Army during the Mexican-American War. The town's first store was built on the current site of the Iowa State Fairgrounds in 1855. In 1862, Marshtown became part of the Union Territory of Iowa and later became a county within that territory. In 1868, Marshtown incorporated as a city and remained so until it merged with Waterloo in 1978.
