The name "Newton" was chosen to honor both Isaac Newton's scientific achievements and to remind residents that they were located on the same side of the Missouri River. The town became fully incorporated on April 15, 1912 when it combined with neighboring Unadilla to form what was then known as Douglas County. Newton's annexation into Douglas County represented a change not only because it opened up more land for farming but also because it allowed for easier transportation between the two communities due to their location near each other on the river bank where trains could stop for passengers disembarking from their boats heading upstream or downstream. As one of Iowa's larger communities, Newton quickly developed into an important commercial and agricultural center during its early years. ManyOWNS-owned businesses – such as Jute Mills (founded in 1901), Paintsville Creamery (founded in 1904), First National Bank (founded 1889), H&R Block ( founded 1909) – remain active today within local townships and villages across central Iowa despite changes over time in business models or locations. This indicates just how diverse life here has become since 1912! Today many people enjoy experiencing all that this vibrant little town has to offer through its festivals such as tubing downriver at White Sands Resort & Spa or enjoying local farmers markets every Saturday morning inside City Hall while listening to live music from various bands playing outdoors at various locations around town during summertime!
