After World War II ended with victory over Japan in 1945, much activity ceased within Waterloo until it resumed after tank warfare erupted across Europe in 1945-46 called "The European War". This period saw construction within the city limits of what would become known as "the Armour Building" which housed both American Type A Tanks (designed by Harry Elmer Barnes) being stored there between 1948-1949 during peace time before they were moved into NATO storageat Maubeuge Castle near Arras where they remain today since withdrawn from service due to wear and tear only lasting two years! In 1951, Waterloo lost its status as a town when it merged with neighboring Bentonville to form Waterville Township which still exists today as one of Iowa's largest municipal districts
