By 1860, over $1 million had been recovered from mining operations at various sites around town; however, only about $20 thousand was ever paid out in wages to local miners because it was known that no more gold existed inside those limits! Today's downtown area still retains many of its pioneer buildings such as the post office (1861), hotel (1910), hardware store (1909), fire hall (1900), schoolhouse (1892), ladies’ shelter (1894) and garage/workshop building (1922). A few other buildings have been replaced or remain standing but most of these are used for commercial purposes or serve as museum displays or tourist attractions today: grain elevator(s) built 1929 & 1933; Masonic Lodge Building erected 1912; First National Bank building erected 1909; Purcell Drug Store built 1913; Women’s Club House erected 1916 & 1922 etc.; also parsonage built 1907 & 1915 etc.). The old railroad depot remains intact but has been converted into an event center called "The Depot" which offers concerts and other events year-round when it isn't being used for storage or as offices anymore!
