When no such assurances were received until after Mexican victory in The Alamo War (1836-39), Asís again relocated to Zacatecas before returning home for good in 1840. The first post office at El Dorado was established in 1868; it remained open until 1907. At various points along its history, El Dorados contributed money or goods to charity or sold items door-to-door for financial assistance during times of economic hardship or social unrest; for instance during World War I they raised $120,000 for the American Red Cross through local sales activities alone). It also has been said that Haskell University's namesake Amos Haskell had something to do with driving away settlers who threatened his land with their cannons because he felt they were taking his property without compensation – though this claim has never been substantiated beyond speculation or hearsay (see: Haskell University)). A more likely explanation is that John Wetherbee built a structure on what is now Haskell Hall which served as a sawmill while he searched for new sites for his academy (Wetherbee House still stands today). After leaving Wichita Falls due to business reasons in 1865 Wetherbee moved back upriver and started another sawmill called Centralia Mills - this mill closed down around 1870 but parts remain extant today including some original equipment used at Centralia Mills which still hangs outside Of course these stories are all just rumors!

El Dorado, Kansas was founded in 1867 by Mormons. The town was named for the Gold Rush region of California. The town grew rapidly during the 1870s and 1880s, eventually reaching a population of over 10,000 people. In 1902, El Dorado became a city with its own government. In 1907, it merged with Topeka to form the current city of Topeka.
