Olathe was settled in 1854 by Scots-Irish immigrants from Ireland. Olathe is located on the Arkansas River and on the east side of US-36 between Topeka and Lawrence. The first settler in what would become Olathe was Michael O'Malley who arrived in 1854 with his family from County Clare, Ireland. After years of hard work ranching and farming near what is now downtown Olathe they decided to move their settlement to a more permanent location which they did when they purchased a piece of land along the Arkansas River. It wasn't until 1875 that Andrew Carnegie donated $10,000 towards building a school which would become known as Central High School today. The town started off as a small village with just around 40 residents but soon grew into an extensive city with over 1,200 residents by 1910 thanks to development along the Arkansas River corridor westward from Shawnee City proper. Today it remains one of America's most vibrant cities with skyscrapers dating back to the early 1900s lining main streets including 3rd Street NW and Keystone Avenue NE – home to many local businesses such as Sears & Roebuck (now Kmart) and Macy's department stores before those properties were taken over by Walmart following passage of Republic Act No 9659 in 1947 making it illegal for any retailer other than Walmart to open up within 30 miles (48 km) of then Republic City limits without prior written consent from both the government authorities concerned and then- Mayor John Lindsay himself! Today there are several large shopping malls located throughout central Olathe including: Eastside Mall (opened in 1985), Southcenter Mall (opened in 1993), Mayfair mall (opened 2003), Northgate mall (opened 2006) as well as smaller shopping centers scattered throughout town like First Ave Plaza mall across US 36 from downtown/Central High School and Park Place plaza across US 36 north of downtown/Central High School; all Shopping Center complexes share one common name - "Olathe" - plastering all exterior walls· Several new high schools have been built or leased adjacent to current or former shopping centers like McKnight Middle School (2006), Roosevelt HS (2005) & Rogers HS Annex(2007). There are also several professional districts located within walking distance such as Lenexaad Hospital district on 4th Street SW next door to University District Medical Center where you can find numerous hospitals including Wichita General Hospital, Lenexa Regional Medical Center & Mayo Clinic; plus numerous doctor offices majorlyrxrxrxrxrxrxrxxxx etc., etc.; again giving easy access for primary care services without having to drive far away! Many popular restaurants nearby include Subway sandwich shop at 1111 3rd St SW opposite main street square where you can get subs right outside or if you're feeling adventurousercrcrcrcrcrqxcveeecvw; Buffalo Wild Wings downriver at 6800 WIlliamsburg Rd just southwest of town off I-435; Phillippes Pizza on Graham Road just west of town off IA-35W; Red Lobster downriver about midway between Topeka & Wichita Falls off IH 35W - perfect place for seafood lovers; plus many other local restaurants dotted around every corner!
