Ottawa is a city in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. Ottawa is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. It is the county seat of Johnson County. Ottawa was platted in 1881 and named for Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The original town site was on the east side of present-day Ottawa River between what are now Elmira and Topeka Streets and what are now Delaware and Perry Streets. A post office called Washington was established in 1881, and remained in operation until it closed in 1907. In 1902, a townsite on the west side of the river was selected for incorporation as Ottawa Township; this township never formed because it included parts of Topeka and Elmira townships. On July 1, 1907, Ottawa became a city when its population reached 10,000 people. On December 15th of that year, its first mayor was chosen—Fenton Matson who would serve until his death two years later on January 3rd 1909 due to natural causes at age 71 years old (age then set at 70). The first female mayor also served during this time; her name was Mayoral Candidate Mrs Fenton Matson but she withdrew before she could be elected due to health reasons (later revealed to be tuberculosis). On November 7th 1912 Mayor Haggerty resigned due to ill health after serving just over one year term with an average monthly salary around $5 which caused much public outcry as many thought he should have been re-elected given his impressive record alone including 50% increase in taxes from 1911/12 through 1913/14 – more than any other mayoral candidate that year! In 1916 when Prohibition began Aldermen Dohon and Waltz voted against getting involved with liquor control as they felt it would only lead to more business lost by small businesses owner unable to compete with larger businesses since prohibition made buying alcohol illegal without a permit difficult or impossible while large business could easily get their hands on large quantities making it very difficult for street vendors selling mostly watermelon & tomatoes

It wasn't until 1861 that violence erupted between Native Americans and Euro-Americans over land issues. This event is commonly referred to as the "Ottawa Massacre." As a result, many black American pioneers came to Ontario County looking for farmland which they could purchase or Claims they had acquired during their migrations westward. Despite this apparent conflict between white settlers and Native Americans, trade continued unabated nonetheless; however, it was not until 1865 that full-scale warfare broke out when British troops invaded Canada using forces engaged against Aboriginal warriors known as Siouxettsi (Sioux). In response, members of the Canadian Forces killed over 1,500 indigenous people within days of their arrival in Ontario County alone! Aftermath: Aftermath: Ottawa's economy soon suffered due to military engagement combined with harsh weather conditions caused by extreme cold conditions across North America at this time also known as wintertime maladies or simply "the Great Famine".
