The party then continued up stream on foot until they reached another small stream which they named Black butler Creek after General Major John Butler who commanded military forces against hostiles at Carpet HillThey made camp there for several days until morning light revealed "a beautiful prospect" across Buffalo Hills Fork Buffalo Creek which they named Browns Ferryafter Captain John Brown who helped lead them discoveryThat eveningthey set up their tents under "the most perfect sky I ever saw". That night about 10 men including Aiken went exploring Browns Ferry upstream while other men erected boats at Buffalo Gap downstream.In September 1853 Captains Davenport & McLaughlin explored Black Butler Creek < tabernacle id = "156" > below Browns Ferry and discovered geographical features not previously known by Europeans including sandstone banks that extended inland more than 100 yards (90 m)
