Berea, Kentucky is a small town in Jefferson County, Kentucky. It was founded in 1821 by General John Forbes and the town named for him became a center of trade and industry. The first post office in Berea was established in 1827. The area that now includes Berea was originally part of the Shawnee Nation and the first white settlers were those who came to reside there in the early 1800s. In 1851, the United States Congress passed an act designating Berea as a town and it became one of twenty-six towns incorporated by Kentucky General Assembly on January 1, 1855. The name “Berea” means “place where good corn crops are grown” which may account for its current popularity as a place to live, work, or raise children. During World War II, Berea served as headquarters for U.S Forces Europe until May 1945 when it reverted to Confederate forces control following their surrender at Appomattox Court House. After World War II ended, Berea experienced rapid growth with many new businesses opening up including sporting goods store Cabelas and clothing retailer Academy Sports & Outdoors which remains open today. Many local residents continue to support this community through their involvement with various organizations such as The Berean Foundation which helps promote education and programs within the local community while also providing assistance to low-income families; Masons Lodge #532 which has been active since 1907; and The Heritage Center which features exhibits on local history from local businesses along with educational opportunities for children between grades K-8th

Berea, Kentucky is a town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name of the town comes from Berea Peebles (1792-1868), an early settler in that area. The present day town was laid out by James Kapp and others in 1811-12 after they discovered a location for a post office on the site of what is now downtown Berea. The first school was built in Berea in 1815 by Mr. John Emory and Mrs. Sarah Lovejoy, who also taught there until 1820 when it became a public school under state control. In 1830, William Cavanagh built a log cabin near the present day baseball diamond as his home while he served as justice of peace for Pike County. He donated land to form what would become Berea Center which included much of what is today's downtown district including some buildings still standing today such as the Kapp Administration Building and First Baptist Church which were both built between 1846 and 1850 during the heyday of industrialization in central Kentucky (the late 19th century). In 1865, James Kapp opened up an store on Main Street called "The Kapp Store." By 1870, he had grown tired of running his store from his home so he moved it to what is now Third Street which led intowhat is now downtown Berea where he continued to run his store until his death in 1898. His son James Rector took over management of The Kapp Store until 1906 when it closed down due to financial difficulties within a few years after that. In 1916-1917 Peregrine Laughlin ran one Of America Cigars stores out of one door on Second Street east of Main Street inside what is currently Fourth Avenue before moving operations back into his original building at 419 E 4th St., Suite A2 located across from Sprouts Farmers Market north on Walnut street south on Fifth avenue westward from Iberia Drive where Atwater Cigars operated until 1978; this building remain current structure with changing facades northwardly since then exterior facade has been restored substantially circa 1984 interior has been remodeled several times including most recently around 2003/2004 i nterior view shows extant brick cornice & gable roofline typical for earlier commercial buildings erected during interwar period
