This site eventually became part of Marshall County after Hocking's death in 1865. In 1840, James Kenedy purchased some additional land east of downtown from Hugh Lawson Callender Sr.. Kenedy used it as his farmstead until he sold it off to Ewing Gentry in 1907. From hereon out, most people living in or near downtown CampbellsVILLE identified themselves either as "Kenedys" or "Gentryes".
