Gun swivels have a long and varied history in Covington, Kentucky. The first gun swivels were made in 1859 by John Borneman of Covington. He designed the original swivel to allow guns to be fired while they were being drawn from their holster. These early guns used two round holders that rotated around the outside of the gun, which caused the rounds to fire in both directions. In 1907, Major General George Armstrong Smith purchased a machine shop located at 257 Broadway in downtown Covington for use bythe United States Army Ordnance Department (USAAFOD). This machine shop would become known as "Armstrong Manufacturing Company" and produce various munitions products such as rifle sights, grenades, pistols etc.. The provisions made for fixed mountings on rifles ledto greater concerns about how our military might use these devices against enemy forces if we ever became involved in hostilities again!. In 1911, Captain Elisha Semon patented an improved typeofgun swivel called an "Airostat Gun Swivel". This device consisted of two heavy brass circles that hinge along an axis so that they can be rotated about their pivot point within rangeof vision for better sighting when firing weapons from positions elevated above ground level!. By 1916, Major General John Jutils had stationed troops at Fort Donelson near Nashville,, Tennessee under commandof Lieutenant Colonel James WimpoleI during World War I,. As part-time soldiers began arriving at Fort Donelson throughout 1917,, 1918,,,,1919,,,,Captain Albert Barnes developed what is now know as Barnes & Richardson GunSwivels which permitted soldiers using standard M1 Garandsand BAR Battle Rifles To Fire From Elevated Positions Using Just One Hand! In 1923,, Lieutenant Colonel Clarence Hinson developed another typeofgunswivel known asthe Hinson Gun Swivler which permitted shooters using M1 CarbinesTo Fire From Elevated Positions With just one hand! All these new developments ledto increased production costs associated with producingthese innovative devices for our military! The first true fully automatic firearms were created during World War II by adding an extra stage(called "trigger")to existing submachineguns called "automatic pistols." Theseweapons featured a single shot action whereupon pullback Of The Trigger causedan operating system inside OfThe firearm ToFireAn Extra Round Which Would Be Fired At The Victim If They Were To Be Captured Alive!). Automatic pistols continued IntoThe postwar era but eventually fell outOfUse DueTo high costOf manufactureAnd regulations governing magazine capacity!! In 1865, Covington was the largest city in Kentucky. It had a population of over 100,000 people and a manufacturing sector that included tannery, shipbuilding, and engineering businesses. To make sure that all of their artillery could be manned with precision and firepower, Confederate gunsmiths made swivels to fit onto cannons. Covington, Kentucky is a town in Clark County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the Welsh word for "fortress," Courcellwyn. The first permanent settler in what is now Covington was Nicholas Sprague in 1792. Sprague and his family located on the site of present-day downtown Covington. He was one of the original promoters of Clay County and served as its first sheriff. In 1814 he donated land to form the current campus of The University ofKentucky at Lexington (today's UK). In 1827 John Smeaton purchased some parcels along Clear Fork River south of wherepresent-day Covington stands and founded Smeatonville. He named his community after himself, though it never grew very large. In 1869 James Ladd homesteaded land just east of present-day Smeatonville on what is now Middlebrook Road. He built a log cabin and began farming this area which would become known as Ladds Valley until he sold it to Wm Pemberly in 1907 for $6,000 cash. At that time Pemberly renamed it Midland Valley after his home state Midland, Michigan near Detroit. During World War II much activity took place in and around downtown Covington due to production by US Army Air Forces Plant 446 at nearby RPM Technical College which manufactured aircraft parts under contract to Boeing Corporation; also many people worked at Alpha Chemical Company manufacturing pesticides during that time period too! Some stores still remain closed today but have been repurposed into other uses or are still standing vacant with no obvious plan for redevelopment!

A new courthouse was built in 1865 and remained in use until 1921 when it was replaced by the current structure. Covington's economy has been based largely on agriculture for centuries because of its location at the convergence of several rivers. Agriculture has since become less important as other industries have taken hold in the city. Today, Covington is home to many businesses such as chemical companies and garment factories which produce a variety of products including clothing and textiles that are exported around the world.
