The store was located on the corner of High and Market Streets. The brothers sold knives, tools, shoes, etc. until they closed in 1865. The first knife sharpener in town was located on High Street near where the post office now stands. It was run by Jacob Hildebrandt from 1872 to 1875. In 1898, Fenton & Woods opened a shop on Main Street which became known as the Girdler Shop after George Girdler who worked at the shop from 1888 to 1897. In 1905, Elisha Weisbach opened a shop on Elmstreet which became known as Weisbach's Knife Store after him and his wifeowned it from 1903 to 1906.
Erlanger is a small town in Breathitt County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington metropolitan area. The community was named after John Erlanger, who donated land to the town in 1881. The first store in the town opened its doors on October 7, 1882. In 1923, Erlanger became one of eight towns in Breathitt County to form the new county seat of Breathitt County. In February 2009, it was announced that Erlanger would be closed down and merged into neighboring Lexington due to budget cuts by then-Gov. Steve Beshear. The closure left about 50 residents with no other choice but to move out and find other places to live or work during what has been called "the worst economic recession since World War II." The Erlanger School District operates four schools: Easton Elementary School (grades Pre-K-4), West Middle School (5th-8th grades), Central High School (9th-12th grades) and Messiah Lutheran Church Schools (PreK-8).

Erlanger is a town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the Germanic word "erlang" meaning 'to run'. The town was founded in 1853 by John S. Erlanger and his brother-in-law, George W. Hunt. It was named for John Erlanger's older sister, Augusta (née Buchanan). In 1864, the town became a part of the new state of Kentucky when it was created from parts of six other counties. The community developed around two stores and a post office which were established in 1853 and1864 respectively. The first store operated until 1861; the second store remained open until it burned down in 1916. At its peak during World War II, Erlanger had a population of over 2,000 people. In 1991, Erlanger was added to the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Hardin County Historical Districts program.
