He named the new town "Georgetown" after his old friend James Robertson (the son of Sir John Robertson) who had helped him lay out Newburgh. In 1802-03, Georgetown was purchased from the Cherokees by Colonel Robert Livingston for $2,500 cash which he used to help build up Lafayette Park in Lexington. The first stores opened here in 1804 when entrepreneur William Brown started a mercantile business called Brown & Williamson store on North Third Street between High and Low Streets that lasted until 1865 . In 1806-07 General David Wilkinson built a house at 9th and University streets for himself and his family which still stands today as one of downtown's earliest extant buildings dating back to that period . He also donated land adjoining Second Baptist Church on First Street near where present day West Market Street meets Fourth Avenue so that Presbyterian missionaries could establish an elementary school there in 1830 called Bellefontaine School which became MiddleSchool Central Academy before finally becoming Grades 7-12 Belmontian School Corporation before being absorbed into Columbiana Learning Systems Schools Incorporated d/b/a Academedia Charter schools renamed Regional Education Centers (REC) four years later participated with their Louisville counterparts Jefferson County Public Schoolsarks District No 2 (LCCPSD2) forming LEC3 whenSystems merged including high school grades 7-12 locations along 4th Ave.-Bellefontaine Rd., 5th Ave.-High St., 6th Ave.-Washington Rd., 8th Ave.-Kentucky AVE., 9th Ave.–West Market St./Fourth Ave.–Bellefontaine Rd./Grades 7-12 unincorporated areas
