Georgetown, Kentucky is a small town located in the community of Georgetown on the Cumberland River. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. The name comes from John Washington's landing there in 1781. Georgetown is one of twenty-three towns in Butler County, Kentucky. It is located about 41 miles northeast of Louisville and 20 miles southwest of Lexington. The first settlers in Georgetown were people who had driven up from Tennessee to find land that would offer them opportunities for agriculture and trade. That year, it also granted land to what are now four schools which still operate today: Grady College (now Grady University), Central High School (now Central Catholic High School), James Ketchum Elementary School (now James Ketchum Middle School), and Georgetown High School (now Georgetown Academy). When Indiana Territory was merged into the new United States federal government in 1789, Georgetown became part of Jefferson County under President George Washington's Order No. 5653 dated February 8th, 1789 which read "that all public lands within this county be divided among members thereof according to their respective merits." In 1861, when Confederate forces invaded Kentucky during the American Civil War and burned some Union buildings along with other skirmishes between Confederate troops and Union forces across much of eastern Kentucky including Lexington et al., many residents fled to neighboring states such as West Virginia or Arkansas where they could find refuge from battle or worse yet become refugees themselves without any connection back home. Some returned eventually but most did not until after World War II when Interstate 66 was built through much of eastern Jefferson County connecting Louisville with Nashville through central Kentucky making it possible for more people living close to each other to get work permits and access basic services like health care that they never could have gotten before because they were scattered throughout several different states especially western Kentucky which remained largely Union territory until sometime after war’s end when statehood was granted thereto by Congress which then allowed those same resources etc.–to flow back into those areas again? Today there are over 2K people living within walking distance of each other here in our tiny little town on the Cumberland River! We truly are one big family! In 1851, tuberculosis began causing deaths among the residents of Georgetown due to its close proximity to one of the largest free markets for that disease in America at that time - Philadelphia's Second City Market - which facilitated trade between East Coast planters and Native Americans living near the river banks. So intense was this trade that many traders also became afflicted with tuberculosis or contracted it from exposure to smoke from cooking fires used by these traders Damn near everywhere! As early as 1792 there are references to "a great fire on account ofTB" burning down houses just west of Georgetown onshoot into Indian territory
