However, within a few years, business conditions deteriorated and the town declined. In 1815, Glasgow was abandoned due to lack of food and infrastructure. It wasn’t until 1840 that another European settlement developed in the area – this time as a result of American annexation of Kentucky following the Mexican-American War. This new community became known as Louisville. By 1860, only 5% of Glasgow’s population remained; however, its location made it an important center for trade throughout much of central Kentucky.
