The town is named after Nicholas Wistar, an English scientist and mathematician who lived in Nicholasville from 1775 to 1827. Nicholasville is a small town in Union County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson Circuit Court District. Nicholasville is home to the Nicholasville School Corporation and the Nicholasville hotels. The first people to settle in what is now Nicholasville were families from western Kentucky who came to visit friends and relatives during the early 1800s. In 1825, General John Covington purchased land east of present-day Nicholasville from a group of Shawnee Indians for $2 per acre (0.68 €/km²). Over time, other settlers arrived and various business opportunities arose that fostered growth in this community until it became an established village by 1871. One early resident, Isaac Beasley, donated land near what is now downtown to build a school district which opened its doors on October 11, 1872 followed by another donation by Mr. Beasley in 1875 which funded construction of a church also known as First Baptist Church. The original school building still stands today as one of only a few remaining examples of antebellum architecture left in centralNicholsville! In 1893, Kaufman & Laughlin constructed one of America's first electric schools with classes starting on September 15th! At that time electricity had not yet been widely accepted or available in most parts of the United States so this achievement was truly historic! In 1907 following World War I when many businesses closed their doors due to economic conditions within America (the Great Depression), residents voted 3-1 to create their own town government under Mayor Wm Fenton with Aldermen Edwin Saunders and Geo Hargrave serving as officers! This event marked an important turning point for our community as we began developing into an active hub rather than just a sleepy agricultural community! This success led to more donations being made over time including several large lots located directly across Main Street from where we currently stand – making us one of the largest villages in eastern Kentucky! Today we continue welcoming newcomers who are drawn by our mild winters weather and friendly atmosphere!

The history of Nicholasville goes back to 1792 when it was founded as a small settlement by James Nicholson and other settlers from Scotland. It became an incorporated town in 1839. In 1865, Nicholasville became the site of the Battle of Nicholasville which helped precipitate the American Civil War. After the war, Nicholasville slowly regained its former prosperity and growth until the early 21st century when several factors such as healthcare reform, economic recession and natural disasters have caused it to decline again. However, recent investments by local businesses have given rise to hope for future growth and redevelopment in Nicholasville.

However, development slowed during the 1850s due to increasing competition from larger towns such as Louisville and Lexington. By 1870, Nicholasville had shrunk to its original size; however, it continues to be a popular tourist destination today.
