Bogalusa, Louisiana was a small community located on the Mississippi River in south central Louisiana. The community was founded in 1886 and was named for General John Bogalusa, who served as Governor of Louisiana from 1868 to 1871. In 1915, Bogalusa incorporated as a town and has since grown into a large city with over 100,000 residents.
Bogalusa is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,639. The town is named for Bogalusa Bayou which forms its eastern border. It was founded by French colonists in 1763 and named after Philippe-Jacques de la Salle who explored the area in 1762. The first post office was established at Bogalusa on October 22, 1801, and the first store opened there on November 5. In 1853, a depot was built at Bogalusa to serve as an interchange for steamboats making their way upriver from New Orleans. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century as cotton plantations were developed in what is now northeastern Jefferson Parish. By 1900, Bogalusa had almost doubled in size and its merchants began to build stores and businesses within walking distance of each other. During World War II, Bogalusa played an important role as a munitions plant supplying belligerents with war material such as artillery ammunition and tanks. In recent decades, much of what remains of the downtown business district has been replaced by luxury housing developments; however, some original brick buildings still stand along Hog Island Road near US 1/US 70 east of downtown (the old Bluebonnet Street). A number of churches remain extant throughout the Village green area including St John's Episcopal Church (founded 1865), Central Baptist Church (1868), Incarnation Catholic Church (1902), and Our Lady Of Lourdes Roman Catholic Chapel (founded 1934). There are also several small general stores located throughout town that have been very successful over time due to their wide variety of products and services offered

Bogalusa, Louisiana is a city in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 6,856 at the 2010 census and it is the county seat of Jefferson County. In 1803, the area that now makes up Bogalusa was part of St. Bernard Parish and was named for Pierre-André de la Salle, captain general of Canada in 1701-1702. When Louisiana became a U.S. state in 1812, Bogalusa became its second county seat and remained so until 1870 when Lake Charles took over that role from Bogalusa. At one time, much of what is now Bogalusa consisted of agricultural land which produced cotton and sorghum; however, most present day downtown areas were developed during the late 19th century as a result of railroad construction through this area including two large industrial complexes: the First National Bank (now JPMorgan Chase) on Harrison Street and Trans World Airlines on East Carroll Street
On November 5, 1803, Bogalusa was chartered as a town in the Louisiana Purchase. It became an important port on the Mississippi River and was known for its citrus fruit production. The town was destroyed by a fire in 1904.
