Slidell is a small town in the parish of Slidell, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1885 by Rear Admiral Alfred I. Godfrey and his wife Clara Godfrey as a resort for women and their children after they retired from naval service. During World War II, Slidell became an important military airbase for the Allies due to its location on Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans. After the war, Slidell developed into a sleepy fishing village with few other businesses until it attracted developers who revitalized it through the construction of high-rise apartments and stores in the early 21st century. In recent years, Slidell has become known as one of America's leading shooting destinations for deer hunting and target shooting tournaments; as well as becoming home to many music festivals, including BluesFest and Metamora Festival. The town also has several restaurants that serve local cuisine such as crawfish etoufee (a swamp shrimp dish), catfish à la mode (a Creole seafood dish made with shrimp) and white bread pudding with whipped cream or ice cream (). During World War II, Rear Admiral Alfred I. Godfrey built a retreat called "The Gables" on what is now Park Drive in Slidell to provide women officers and their families with privacy while away from home during hostilities. He also endowed funds that remain active today to support female officer education programs worldwide; among these funds are $10 million earmarked for training opportunities for first responders throughout the United States starting in 2020."

In 1830, Slavery was abolished statewide but continued existing among Native American groups such as the Iberian Americans living near Baton Rouge until their removal to Oklahoma under President Franklin D Roosevelt's Executive Order 9981 on January 16,1939 which also transferred all Indian tribes west of Interstate 20 into Bureau of Indian Affairs jurisdiction effective September 15th Some descendants of those removed still live scattered throughout eastern Oklahoma

In 1935 Slidell became home to United States Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton; it served as an important logistical hub during World War II for both American forces fighting in Europe and Japanese forces fighting in the Pacific theatre of war. From 1945 until its closure in 2006 Camp Pendleton was also known as Marine Corps Air Station Miramar which played an important role during Operation Neptune’s Spear –the massive amphibious assault against Okinawa Island –and Hurricane Katrina’s landfall two years later. After Camp Pendleton's closure, Slidell experienced rapid growth thanks to several large business ventures beginning with Shell Oil Corporation's installation of three refineries here in 1987 followed by Halliburton Energy Services' acquisition of nearby Phelps Dodge Chemical Company before being purchased by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation in 2005 (renamed Rex Petroleum after company merger). Today Slidell has emerged as one of America’s most dynamic small towns with many businesses based here including: Alamo Drafthouse Cinema & Grill (a movie theater chain), Harry Potter Chicago Pizza (an Italian restaurant chain), KFC restaurants (a fast food restaurant chain) and numerous smaller businesses ranging from beauty salons to automotive parts stores all located within walking distance of each other making it easy for residents and visitors alike to get their fix!
