In the early 1800s, binoculars were still a novel purchase for many in Thibodaux, Louisiana. The town was founded by French colonists in 1718 and had a population of only about 100 people. By 1827, however, the population had increased to over 1,000 and the town began to grow rapidly. During this time, binoculars became very popular in Thibodaux because they allowed people to see more than one thing at a time. People also used binoculars for hunting and navigation because they could see things that others couldn’t. In 1872, when Thibodaux was incorporated as a city, it passed an ordinance allowing merchants to sell optical products. This led to the growth of the optics industry in Thibodaux and other parts of Louisiana. Binoculars continue to be popular today and are often used for fishing, birdwatching, and other purposes.

Thibodaux, Louisiana is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie-Kenner metropolitan area. The earliest known inhabitants of Thibodaux were Native American people. The first European to set foot on what is now Thibodaux soil was Lieutenant Colonel Jean Lafitte in 1802 during his reconnaissance expedition along the Mississippi River. He named the place "Timbuctoo" in honor of British Admiral James Cook who had explored this region two years earlier and named it after his ship "Tiburon". In 1814, General Andrew Jackson made Thibodaux his temporary capital and established it as the permanent capital of Jefferson Parish when he took office as President of the United States. In 1848, Thibodaux was incorporated as a city by an act of Congress under the name "New Orleans". However, because many white people living in New Orleans refused to move to an all black city, Mayor James Fenton declared that New Orleans would be color-blind and ordered all white businesses to close their doors on December 5th, 1848. White businessmen complied but not before setting fire to most of their businesses in what became known as Fenton's Fire. The burning continued until January 8th when a detachment from Company G Third U S Infantry under Captain John Pemberton arrived and put out the fire with water hoses while citizens looked on from balconies or windowills across town. A few weeks later on January 12th Lafitte's body was found buried at Ft Royal near Monroe after having been reported missing since December 28th. As part of Reconstruction following reconstruction laws enacted by America during Reconstruction Era (1865-1913), much property including Thibodaux were taken from African Americans and given back to them through deed or auctioneer sales with no compensation given to those who had lost their homes or land during Reconstruction era policies which excluded African Americans from owning property outright without due process or compensation In 1946 construction began on Veterans Memorial Coliseum which would become one of popular tourist destinations for locals and visitors alike due to its historical significance as well as its ability to seat over 47000 spectators for concerts, exhibitions and other events over its 36 year history On November 14th 1950 Hurricane Louis caused significant damage throughout much of coastal parish including Thibodaux with wind speeds up to 85 mph making it one of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded . More than $100 million worth in damages were done with about 90% loss suffered within downtown areas where nearly all brick buildings were destroyed except for a few remaining structures such as St Peters Catholic Church which sustained only Minor Damage During post-Katrina reconstruction efforts initiated by Governor Kathleen Blanco (D), many local businesses reopened but there has been little progress towards restoring old historic properties such as Veteran Memorial Coliseum although some have begun redevelopment projects Today Thibodeau has seen rapid growth with new development taking place throughout central business district areas especially around Interstate 10 exit 54A known locally as "The Loop" which houses several high-end restaurants such Asiana Buffet & Grill (a KFC owned restaurant), Canadian Coffee Lounge & Bakery., Phoebus Chinese Restaurant & Banquet Hall., Lakefront Grille & Oyster Bar., Houma Brewery Pub., Lafayette Market Place Cabaret,, La Croix Winery,,,,,. Many residents refer To This Area As The "South Broadway Historic District".

Thibodaux, Louisiana (formerly Iberia Parish) is a parish located in the northeastern corner of Louisiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 992, down from 1,023 in 2000. The parish seat is Thibodaux. The area that makes up Thibodaux today has been occupied by human beings for at least 10,000 years. The earliest evidence of human occupation in the area can be found at Baton Rouge's Atchafalaya River Basin which contains two small settlements dating back to 3000 BC: Caddo and Choctaw Nation. The first European to visit this part of Louisiana was Spain on August 29th Jesuit Father Fernando de Alvarado who landed at Baton Rouge with his army on July 20th 1565. In 1802, French landowner Joseph-Jacques Bienville donated what would become Thibodaux to the United States as part of a larger land grant known as "The Purchase". On April 14th, 1800 US General James Wilkinson laid out a system for dividing Louisiana into west and east banks along the Mississippi River based on Spanish claims that were never realized. The Bienville Grant included much of what would become Thibodaux including present day Lafourche Parish and parts of St Landry Parish and Orleans Parish. It also included areas now within Rapides and De Soto parishes northwest of New Orleans and within Mobile County including Baldwin County proper as well as portions of Jefferson and Jackson Counties northward to Lake Pontchartrain In 1821, during Reconstruction following the American Civil War, General John Totten ordered all white people in Confederate territory must leave or face martial law. This order led to an exodus of over 400 residents from easternLouisiana into westernSt Bernard Parish where they founded la Rochefoucauld near Thibodaux along the banks ofthe Assumption River. La Rochefoucauld quickly became one ofNew Orleans' most important African American businesses; it served both black residentsand white businesspeople until it closed its doors in 1966 due to racially motivated attacks by white supremacists associated with Ku Klux Klan
Thibodaux, Louisiana was founded in 1814 by Frenchmen. The city started as a small town on the banks of the MISSOURI River. In 1836, Thibodaux became the capital of Louisiana. The city was named for General Pierre- François de La Salle, who fought in the French and Indian War.
