Havre De Grace, Maryland is a town in Prince George’s County, Maryland, United States. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the three towns in Prince George's County and the second-smallest municipality in Maryland after Takoma Park. Havre De Grace was founded on July 1, 1755 by Captain John Smith and his party of English colonists as an agricultural and trading center for adjacent Delaware Township. The first store in Havre de Grace opened its doors on November 11, 1814. The town's first post office was established on December 15, 1814. By 1827 Havre de Grace had become home to what became known as "the most beautiful girl in America." Henry Carroll purchased land east of City Hall which would be used for a community park that became known as Carroll Park today. After being rejected by other municipalities for lack of property value (read: too small), Carroll donated all of his land to Havre de Grace as its first public works project - an armory and schoolhouse which stand to this day within the town limits. On May 8, 1830 he also giftized 2 acres (0 hectares) northeast of City Hall to form Griggs Hill Park Luncheon Club where today you can find several restaurants and cafes lining Wellesley Street between First Avenue North and Second Avenue South

The town name comes from French for "bridge over the river." The first permanent settler in Havre De Grace was John Smith in 1785. Other early settlers included Joshua Key, James Fenton and Isaac Norris. By 1814, Havre de Grace had a population of 150 people and was known as a stop on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. In 1865, Havre de Grace became part of Frederick County when it was created from parts of Carroll and Washington Counties. In 1868, work began to build what would become Havre De Grace State Park. Today, Havre De Grace State Park includes over 2 miles (3 km) of hiking trails with views of Catonsville cascades and Towson hillsides. The present day town center dates back to 1902 when two small villages were developed: West Side Village and East Side Village. In 1925, Northside Village merged into Havre de Grace while Southside Village merged into West Side Village in 1957 During World War II, Havre de grace played an important role as an airbase fordotcom Aviation Company operations out of Beechcraft Air Force Base near Bowie MD*. Havre De Grace was an early settlements in what is now Maryland. It was founded by French colonists in 1683 as a small town on the Susquehanna River. Havre De Grace grew quickly, and by 1724 it had a population of over 200 people. In 1749, the town passed to England as part of the Treaty of Paris after Britain won the Seven Years' War. The town continued to grow, but during the American Revolution it sided with Great Britain. After the war, Havre De Grace reverted to France and soon lost its importance. Today, it remains a small community with few residents.
