Havre De Grace is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 11,811 at the 2010 census. Havre de Grace is part of the Washington metropolitan area. It is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and includes most of its shoreline to the east and west. The town has a rich history dating back to 18th century America. The first settler in what is now Havre de Grace was John Smith who arrived in 1777 with his family from Nova Scotia. Smith's brother-in-law, Captain William Preston built a house on land that now forms the western edge of Havre de Grace Township. In 1798, General Edward Braddock and his forces were defeated by French forces at Saratoga and many settlers fled to what is now Baltimore County in order to avoid capture or destruction by the French military establishment allied with Great Britain at that time. Many of these early settlers brought their families with them when they migrated westward in search of new land and opportunities during the American Revolution (1775-83). From 1798 until 1814 Havre De Grace lay within Montgomery County; however, because of its strategic location as an anchorpost on both sides of the Susquehanna River between Prince George's County on the north side and Delaware County on the south side it became an important center for trade during this period as well as for political power due to its close proximity to both Georgetown – then capital of North America – and Philadelphia – then capital of Pennsylvania/. Shorelines along present day Route 50 near where Aberdeen Creek flows into Chesapeake Bay were developed primarily for fishing during this era with catches reaching up to 30 tons per year; today those waters are used principally for navigation by commercial vessels operating out of nearby Norfolk/Norfolk Harbor. As commerce grew so did social unrest culminating in a series of riots which took place throughout Prince George's County from 1789 through 1800 known locally as "the Harbinger Riots." This period also saw some early development within Havre de Grace including buildingof The State House (now known as Old State House) which was completed in 1800 and still stands today; becoming one of only two buildings remaining from this time period still standing in all fifty U.S., Canadian provinces and territories combined (). In 1814 Davy Crockett reached Havre De Grace after journeying across country for weeks via Stagecoach Road - thus beginning what would become one Of America’s longest continuous frontier occupations (). After being captured by Confederate troops while engaged against Federal forces at Antietam he spent three months imprisoned near Fortress Monroe before eventually being released without trial or ransom () resulting in huge popular support among local farmer’s groups who had come together demanding his release (). Crockett returned home brandishing an American flag over Fort McHenry prior to leading militia troops towards Gettysburg where he lost his life days later

Havre De Grace, Maryland is a town in Prince George’s County, Maryland, United States. The population was 11,604 as of the 2010 census. Havre De Grace is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and bordered by Calvert County to the south and east, Harford County to the north and west, and Worcester County to the northwest. The town's namesake was General John Forbes who fought in the American Revolutionary War. The first permanent settler in Havre de Grace Township was Nicholas Nicholson on March 3, 1784. Nicholson had come from Augusta, Georgia with his family for what he thought would be a better life in America. He landed at Falmouth Landing on May 10th of that year and started looking for land where he could farm. He found some land about six miles (10 km) northeast of present-day Havre de Grace on which he built a house called "Nicholson's Store." In 1793 Nicholson married Anne Hays from Northampton Township. They lived there until 1802 when they moved to what is now Calvert County because Anne's father had been granted permission by Governor James Ketcham to settle there after moving his business from Augusta to Northampton during King George II's time as king. In 1802 Nicholas and Anne bought some more land around present day Havre de Grace which they named "The Harbor." They continued farming there until their death in 1865; their son also named Nicholas continued farming until 1902 when he sold it all to Jens Jensen who developed it into one of Prince George’sCounty’s most successful commercial areas today known as Jensen Place Boulevard/Senator John Fenton Way
