The history of Rockville goes back centuries; there are evidence indicating that it has been inhabited since at least 7500 BC when animal husbandry practices were prevalent hereabouts. One theory suggests that humans may have come to this area specifically for mining resources because Of all places within 1000 miles (1600 km), only one other site – Great Falls in Virginia – had any significant amount of coal deposits according to archeological studies done during this time period! In 1784-85 when Major John Rouse moved his forces from Fredericktown into what would later become Rockville he began developing what would eventually become this small town! From then on many people who owned land within sight or sound of ROC found themselves needing somebody else's help with farming/mining ventures so they could stay afloat financially! This started what would ultimately be an important trend away from subsistence living towards largerscale entities over time! In 1821 when Montgomery County was created including much present day Montgomery County we also came under jurisdiction! At this time we had 2 large mines still being mined right adjacentllo each others so development didn't really pick up until well after incorporation though some did start moving into town once properties opened up especially near our water front areas lol Development picked up slowly throughout those years mostly due to taxes not being raised which made life difficult for lotsa people

Rockville was first settled in 1751 by Captain John Smith, who named it after his home town of Rockville, Virginia. The town grew rapidly during the early years of the American Revolution, and by 1800 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1790, the town was renamed Rockville City after General George Washington's victory at Yorktown. Rockville continued to grow during the late 18th century as a center for heavy industry and agriculture, but its heyday came in the 19th century when it became one of the most important cities in Maryland. Rockville's economy waxed and waned throughout its history, but it always retained a strong military garrison and civilian population.
