The first binocular business was established in Chicopee by two Dutchmen, Pieter de Witt and Cornelis de Vries. De Witt and De Vries started selling binoculars in 1681. By 1795, they had opened a second store in Boston. In 1827, they founded the American Optics Company in Chicopee. The company continued to operate until 1915 when it merged with British Optical Works Ltd. In 1915, the British Optical Works Ltd. changed its name to British War Office Binoculars Ltd., which still operates today as a proud subsidiary of Bausch & Lomb Incorporated (NYSE: BL). The early history of binocular sales can be traced back to at least 1681 when two Dutchmen – Pieter de Witt and Cornelis de Vries – started sellingbinoculars in Boston. During the 1700’s there were many different types of binocularity available including Oriental glass telescopes used for astronomy; these telescopes would hold about sixty lenses each which allowed you to view objects up close or afar depending on your skill level and size of telescope! At first these telescopes were only sold to high-end collectors who could afford them but eventually more people began buying them too because they gave better images than any other type of optical instrument at that time! In 1827, Abraham Lincoln ordered some 50 pairsof folding optics from London-based British Optical Works Ltd., which became known as King George’s College Binocularity Fundies due to their exclusive distribution rights granted by King George IV himself! These optics would later be dubbed “Lincoln Glasses” after President Abraham Lincoln himself! During World War II, American War Office Binocularity Limited produced thousands of pairs of folding optics for use by the UK military police forces during WWII (known as “Pilot Glasses”)! This was especially important during air combat as pilots needed good vision while flying so having accurate sighting equipment was an essential part of being a successful pilot! After World War II ended, American War Office Binocularity Limited transitioned into what is now known as Bausch & Lomb Incorporated (NYSE: BL) with over seventy years experience producing superior quality rigid eyeglasses/binocular products that are enjoyed by millions across North America!!! Chicopee, Massachusetts is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. Chicopee is part of the Boston metropolitan area. Chicopee was first settled in 1642 by Puritans who arrived from England on the Mayflower. Chicopee is one of three towns that make up the Milton–Clark county seat and were once part of what was known as the Pequot Indian reservation. The town's name comes from an English word meaning "a fair place" or "a pleasant village." In 1777, Captain John Smith discovered an island in the river near where Chicopee now stands and named it for his friend and mentor, General James Sullivan. The original American settlement around this island began to form in 1781 when two Dutch families moved there from Nieuw Amsterdam and founded a small community called New Utrecht on Catoctin Island. In 1802, when Worcester County was created out of parts of Middlesex and Hampshire counties, Chicopee became part of Worcester County. It remained so until 1825 when it split off to form its own separate municipality under the name Winchendon (now Danvers). In 1839-41, after much discussion among local officials about whether or not to annex into new towns such as Lawrence and Lexington due to increasing population density within the expanding town limits - with no consensus reached - Chicopee elected two representatives to represent it at Springfield (then Waltham) Court House during what is now known as common law proceedings without having met face-to-face with either party representative; thus becoming one of only a few communities in America which did so during this period. Named for Amos Kendall (1727–1806), one of several early Baptists who came to Northampton County and built West Newton Baptist Church (later First Congregational) on Main Street in Centerboro in 1785; Kendall's house still stands today at 5 Brattle Street between Harvard Avenue and Wellesley Avenue across from Griggs Hall public library.) Kendall also donated land east of Centerboro along Amherst Road for what would become South Manchester Grammar School (now South Manchester Regional High School), which opened its doors on February 10th, 1787; today's main building stands adjacent to that site as well as Amherst Road Cemetery just west of Route 9A southbound off Interstate 95W near exits 13B/14A northbound off I-95W exit 7B / 8A . A 2 1/2 mile long stone wall surrounding these lands served as both boundary marker between various farms within present day Winchendon Township - including Allston – until Title 11 takeovers by other municipalities made those boundaries largely irrelevant following World War II . In 1851 Chisoxetown formed from parts of Winchendon Township eastwardly towards Fall River while portions westwardly towards Somerville were annexed into Lowell upon creation of that township . As late as 1910 all but a small corner currently located inside present day Bedford are within current Dunkirk borders (though quite close by) while most westernmost portions lying within neighboring Wareham border approximately 3 miles wide
