Nearby farms were pillaged and burned as Rebel troops passed through; many buildings in town were damaged or destroyed including both the old courthouse and library which still stands today. Most notably during this time much progress has been made in terms of technology with what is now known as Route 128 being developed starting out as an agricultural path leading north from North Adams toward Watertown and Worcester.
