Bay City is a city in the Bay County, Michigan area, U.S.A. It was founded on July 4, 1835 by General James K. Polk and his troops as the town of Bay City Junction. The first post office was opened in 1836, and the first store was built in 1840. The city became a village in 1854 and then a town in 1865. It became a city on January 1, 1903.

Bay City is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Bay County and one of its three counties. The first settlers in Bay City were people from Holland who founded the city on July 4, 1824, while they were still living on their ship "Nieuw Amsterdam". In 1840-41, Methodist missionaries Elisha Pease and James Aiken traveled through Michigan looking for missions to be established so they could preach to Native Americans while traders brought goods back from America’s far west coast along the Mackinac Bridge across Lake Huron; during their stay in Bay City they had dinner with Judge Augustus Buell who then appointed them missionaries for his mission among the Kickapoo Indians east of Grand River near present day Liberty Township; during their stay Elisha Pease baptized 10 children including four women converts named Martha Jane Cook (she would later move away), Anna Hullinger (married into another missionary family), Susannah Sibley (married into another missionary family) – all of whom eventually moved westward themselves or found new homes within Christianity after leaving Bay City where their parents or grandparents had done so before them! This visit by pioneers led to substantial growth for both Elisha Pease & James Aiken as well as property purchases & subdivisions throughout what is now Bay County – especially around downtown where business opportunities soon followed suit! On November 17th 1840 “The Detroit Gazette” reported: “A nice extensive farmstead has been laid out lately by Mr George Tucker Esq., consisting of ninety five acres [of] good land situate upon high bluff overlooking Toledo river….It will take some time but we trust he will effectually improve said estate and make it one of great commercial importance” This article also mentioned that Mr Tucker had removed trees obstructing view eastward towards Grand Rapids & included plans for future development shown depicting additional buildings rising up hillside behind current structures such as Masonic Temple currently located just northwest/west of downtown between I-75 & Main Street which may become home to a larger grocery store or other businesses if developments continue apace? By 1861 there were over 100 citizens living within walking distance either directly or indirectly Of downtown business district! One result given this early activity (& ensuing housing shortage) was continuous construction going on Downtown including Second National Bank building completed in1861 next door newly erected Presbyterian Church completed 1870 Decatur street immediately south west side steps leading up from alley leading up North Main street frontage opposite current Pershing Avenue - almost ground level parking lot converted into 3 stories apartment buildings are extant today facing east sides alley immediately north side rooms fronts octagon shaped building facing Pershing Avenue once balcony extending southeast inside exists interior features original plaster facade remains exterior features include gables 2 story + attic addition original red brick exterior walls remain white drab Noticeable differences include large vacant lots now surrounding area replaced by modern manufactured housing more recent addition(s) viewable from alley running northeast side presently occupying space identified above right bank intersection between Haggerty Road & Waterfront Drive undeveloped site visible just past entrance off Haggerty Road approximately six blocks southwest corner Lakeshore Boulevard

Today, Bay City continues its strong economy with many businesses operating out-of-state but still employing locals who continue to make their mark on this community through their work or volunteerism.
