In Bay City, Michigan, the history of gun swivels is intertwined with that of the city's police department. Bay City is a small city in the Macomb County, Michigan, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metro area. Bay City was founded on July 24, 1824 by John McMorris and settlers from St. Joseph, Indiana. The first post office in Bay City was established in 1827 and it served as the town's only building until 1858 when an addition to the town built a new post office and Courthouse on State Street. The first store in Bay City was opened by George Warton in 1828 and it became one of the most successful businesses in Bay City for many years. Warton also founded what is now known as Warton's Restaurant which became one of the most popular restaurants in Bay City during its time. In 1840, William Haggerty built a sawmill that would become one of the largest mills operated in Michigan at that time. Haggerty's mill produced lumber for buildings, fences and other items until it closed down around 1950s due to lack of demand from customers. In 1865, Augustus Kelley started a blacksmith shop near downtown that would become one ofbaycity's most popular businesses for many years before becoming defunct around 1975 or 1980 due to competition from newer establishments within town limits. As with other Midwestern towns during this time period there were increasing numbers of immigrants coming into bay city seeking work opportunities throughout all types of manufacturing including agriculture butchery operations were also expanding rapidly becoming some of bay city’s earliest businesses along with breweries (the first being Jolly Roger Brewery opened up by S M White backwoods farmer who used local ingredients) through out these years often opening their doors early morning hours amidst blue collar workers making their way home after dinner shift
