One of the earliest airguns in Berkley was a simple 4-barrel shotgun. The first person to shoot an airgun in this area had been Dr. John Prentice, who built his own gun shop and shot guns for fun at his home in 1902. Berkley is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 21,718 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Michigan and one of its ten most populous cities. Berkley is located on the eastern shore of Lake Huron, bordered by Ferndale to the north and east and Clinton Township to the south. The first permanent settler in Berkley was Nicholas Houghton in 1814, who built a log cabin on what is now Second Street. The town started off as a small hamlet named after Houghton's farmstead, but soon grew into a thriving community with over 100 residents. In 1834, Berkley became part of the newly formed Indian Territory when Michigan became an American territory. In 1855, fire destroyed much of downtown Berkley due to arson; however, new buildings were erected quickly and business continued to grow despite some difficulty from this event. When Detroit obtained independence from United States control on July 4th, 1867, Berkley followed suit becoming its first city under that jurisdiction. The following year saw another large fire which destroyed much of downtown again but also did not stop business growth—this time because businesses had stockpiled supplies in anticipation of help coming from surrounding towns during THE Great Detroit Fire (1871). During World War II many people worked at military bases nearby such as Fort Wayne Army Ammunition Plant (Watkins Glen), Grand Forks Air Force Base (Grand Forks), Ford Motor Company’s Willow Run Arsenal Facility (Willow Run) and other plants like it throughout all levels including heavy industries like aircraft manufacturing or shipbuilding etc., creating significant amounts of pollution which affected local communities close by for years afterwards even long after these plants closed down.—All told about 12% or so area around metropolitan Detroit experienced air quality levels exceeding 500 parts per million for six months during 1945 European battlefront bombings! Berkley is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Portage County area of Michigan, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Berkley is part of the Muskegon Heights micropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Berkley were the Ojibwe Indians. They began occupying this land in 1813 when they ceded it to the United States after a long and difficult battle with British forces. The first white person to settle here was John Fitch, who arrived in 1824. He built a cabin on what is now Elm Street. In 1827, he married Sarah Ann Phelps and moved into his new house with her and their four children: Alice, John, Peter and Martha Jane. In 1837, Isaac Peck opened a store on Main Street which became known as Peck's General Store until about 1860 when it was taken over by Grosse Pointe Township merchants George Haines and James Halliday. In 1861-1862, Mrs. Peck converted an old schoolhouse into a ladies' nightingale asylum for girls which she named "Bethlehem". This building still stands today on Elm Street between Second and Third Streets near where Mr. Fitch's cabin used to stand In 1865-1866, three brothers - Josephine Kapp (the only one), Emmett Iversen (Kapp’s brother) and Harry Smith - set up shop at 907 Wabash Avenue NW in what is now Midland Park They were successful fishermen who grew rich from oyster farming but also started buying real estate in downtown Detroit as well as properties around Grand Rapids In 1898 two brothers - Charles Forbes (from Canada) and Augustus Dorman (Dorman & Forbes) - bought US 16th Street NW from J P Morgan for $2 million dollars They renamed it "East Side Boulevard" after their ancestral home on East Hastings Avenue in Toronto recalled that story years later by Congressman Dave Bingham who had been born there
On October 1, 1871, Berkley became a town in Wayne County, Michigan. It was founded by James A. Berkley and his family. The town was named after the Farmington Hills estate of John C. Frick which had been given to James A. Berkley's father-in-law, Nicholas Murray Butler, in 1865.
