Burton's growth continued through World War II when it became home to several military installations including Fort Gratiot which eventually closed down due to budget cuts; Camp Detrick located on land leased from Cadillac Land Company; Homecoming Hall which housed Soldiers' Aid Society; Chrysler Corp.'s plant (now known as Hamtramck Mall); and finally Mack Trucks Plant number 6 where many famous Lincoln models were manufactured such as Ford Pinto and Plymouth Valiant
