Dearborn Heights is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 51,924 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Wayne County and the second-largest city on the Great Lakes region after Chicago, Illinois. Dearborn Heights is one of two cities in Wayne County that are not part of Detroit metropolitan area and it has a total population of over 152,000 as of 2010 census data. The first settlements in what is now Dearborn Heights were made between 1827 and 1829 by Major John Dearborn, who purchased land from the Ottawa Indian tribe for $2 per acre (about $0.50 today). In 1830, Dearborn leased land from George Stephenson for four years to establish a transportation center on the then new Detroit–Windsor railway line. The town was named after John Dearborn's father-in-law, David Ducharmee, who had purchased 2,500 acres (100 hectares) east of present day Dearborn Heights from General Shiawassee during Minnesota's War for Independence (1812).[1] The town became an agricultural community with fruit orchards and corn cribs being among its early businesses. In 1835, Congress passed legislation creating Wayne County which included Dearborn Heights within its boundaries; however, until 1840 no one lived in or visitated Dearborn Heights due to lack of transportation.[2] However becauseof this lack of development formal incorporation did not take place until November 1st 1870 when it was ratified by vote at a meeting called to adopt charter form by Mayor James Moultrie following a fire that destroyed much of downtown Detroit.<3> In 1908 wire manufacturers Cushman & Wakefield opened their plant on Deer Park Road adjacent to present day Ford Field across from what is now Midtown Center mall; this facility produced wires used inside America’s first air conditioned stadium which housed both NFL teams – Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions – as well as numerous other major companies including GMC truck dealerships and Chrysler Corporation’s Toledo Assembly Plant.<4> Due to WWI industrial production increased along with military serviceWWII created unprecedented demand for metal products such as autos parts so workers began arriving earlier than anticipated especially affecting factory jobs near Water Tower Place where auto plants producing parts for war vehicles were located; eventually these factories closed but left behind communities like Clinton Township where many people still work today doing various typesOf Metal fabrication.<6><7> In 1945 Michigan Statehood was granted providing local government with authority over all matters pertaining directly or indirectly to citizens residing within its borders making Dearborne Heights an official city<8>. As American suburbanization took hold beginning in 1960 housing prices escalated becoming increasingly unaffordable for many residents particularly young families unable to afford high priced neighborhoods outside downtown while schools struggled through financial deficits causing large class sizes even up until my time increasing crime rates<15><16><17><18>>19>>>20>>>21>>>22>>>>23>>>>24>>>>25>>>26>>>27>>>28>>>>29<<30

Dearborn Heights is a small town in Wayne County, Michigan. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The first people to live in Dearborn Heights were George and Anna Griggs in 1837. They came from a farm near Saginaw Township on the other side of the Rouge River. In 1840, they built an early log cabin on what is now First Street south of Woodward Avenue. In 1847, John Dearborn purchased one-half interest in the Griggs farm for $2,000 cash and moved his family to what is now Dearborn Heights. He became one of the largest landholders in Wayne County and started developing tracts of land around his home into farms that today include parts of Farmington Hills and Redford Township. Dearborn's heyday as a farming community ended with World War I when he turned his attention to munitions production atDTW Arsenal in Hamtramck. However, he continued to be involved with local politics until his death in 1925 at age 89 years old. The Dearborn Heights School District was created on November 16, 1922 by order of then-Governor James Kapp (D) through legislation passed by the Michigan Legislature following passage of Act 191 which established school districts throughout Michigan based upon population size rather than township or village form blocks within townships or villages; thus ensuring rural areas would not become left behind economically during this time period while also providing more opportunities for education for all citizens regardless race or sex
