Dearborn Heights is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and its county seat, Dearborn County. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The downtown core is home to several large businesses, including Ford Motor Company and General Motors, as well as smaller businesses and cultural institutions. According to the 2000 Census, Dearborn Heights had an unemployment rate of 5%. Dearborn Heights was founded in 1835 by land developers John Smedley and Jephtha Butler as a town on the eastern edge of Detroit. On November 1, 1837, it became a city with a population of 10,000 people under Mayor George Wurtzel's leadership. The city's first mayor was Levi Purdy (1827-38). In 1865 it became one of the five cities that created Wayne County through Act No. 4 of 1865; within this county it continued to be its own municipality until 1975 when it merged with neighboring Oakland Township to form Dearborn Heights Township

Dearborn Heights experienced growth in the early 21st century with suburban development and recent construction of an airport and new shopping malls within walking distance of each other. As of 2010, there were 54,362 people living in Dearborn Heights proper and 3236 residents living in annexed areas which include parts of Hamtramck Township and Van Buren Township across Macomb County line into Wayne County outside the City limits

The name 'Dearborn Heights' comes from General John Pemberton's order that "every inhabitant" should be moveable property which included all or part of what are now Dearborn Heights and neighboring townships (Arnold Park being one such township).
