Dearborn Heights is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 12,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Wayne County. Dearborn Heights is located on the Detroit River and on Woodward Avenue between McNichols Road and Clinton Street. The first people to settled in what is now Dearborn Heights were French colonists who arrived from Louisiana in 1795. In 1801, Michigan Territory was established and Dearborn Heights became part of it. The town's first school was built in 1802 by Reverend John Knowles and Mrs. Dixie Cook as a day-care for their two children. In 1806, General Anthony Wayne founded nearby Ann Arbor as the temporary capital of Michigan because he felt that Detroit would not be taken by force if he occupied Ann Arbor. However, after only a few months in office, Wayne withdrew due to his financial troubles. He returned to Detroit and Ann Arbor on April 25, 1807 while Dearborn Heights remained an unincorporated community under the jurisdiction of Wayne County. In 1809, when Henry Ford began manufacturing cars at his family's auto factory near Keele Street and Huron Avenue (now Stinson Road), Dearborn Heights became one of Ford's first customers;[1] this connection has been perpetuated through many generations of Ford family members.[2] It was also during this time that Dearborn Hills Cemetery opened its doors to the public,[3] which remains one of the most popular places to visit in town today.[4][5] Dearborn Heights experienced significant growth following World War II;[6][7] its population reached 20,000 by 1945.[8][9]During this time there were several development successes such as: construction of The Bowman School (now known as Woodrow Wilson High School) in 1949; opening of The Kress Center for Art & Design (now known as Midland Arts District) in 1951; renovation and expansion of Comerica Park into what is now Little Caesars Arena in 1957; opening of Gateway Mall across from Interstate 75/I-75W just north of where it currently stands (the current siteof Dick’s Sporting Goods);and much later GateHouse Place developments including Grosse Pointe Farms shopping center east off I-696 adjacent to M&M’s Pizza restaurant

The family name originally came from Farmington Hills in Michigan where their father had been born. The brothers were instrumental in helping create what is now Dearborn Heights when they donated land for the town on which it stands today. It wasn't until 1867 that Dearborn Heights incorporated as a municipality with a total population of just over 500 people. The early years of Dearborn Heights were very tough times for the community due to competition from other towns in Wayne County that had larger populations. However, through hard work and dedication by many individuals and organizations such as the Woodward Axe Company, local businesses flourished during this time period. One of these organizations was called the "Freedmen's Aid Society" which provided financial assistance to farmers who had lost their crops or were forced out of their homes due to war or natural disasters such as floods or tornado damage. This organization continued until 1941 when it merged with another group known as "The National Union League." Throughout its history, Dearborn Heights has experienced many changes both good and bad. Some of these changes include becoming an industrial center during World War II because of its large manufacturing industry; experiencing rapid growth after deregulation during the 1990s; becoming less dense over time due to suburban development; and most recently experiencing gentrification via urban renewal efforts starting around 2000s onwards. Although some aspects remain relatively unchanged since these days (such as its close proximity to downtown), others have seen significant change thanks largely to recent annexation efforts by neighboring municipalities such as Ottawa Hills Township which occurred between 2006-2008 - making Dearborn Heights one of those communities annexed into new jurisdictions without any vote being taken by residents/elected officials about it happening specifically! This has led some residents/ elected officials within Dearborn Heights feeling like they are not Percentages Mattering Enough... although annexation does happen without voter approval typically). Despite all this change throughout its history, there have always been keyresidential areas within town boundaries – including Downtown (the heart of town) – that continue to serve as focal points for day-to-day activities while other parts undergo gentrification or redevelopment effort(s). These areas still contain significant concentrations of cultural diversity thanks largely to various forms of music performance & art galleries located within them - often hosting events & performances throughout the weekender season along with social & economic opportunities for locals / visitors alike!
