Eastpointe is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the seat of Wayne County. The population was 96,723 at the 2010 census, making it one of the largest cities in Michigan. It is located on the eastern fringe of Detroit metropolitan area and is home to four universities: Wayne State University, Eastern Michigan University, Southwestern Michigan University, and Henry Ford Community College. The name "Eastpointe" was given to this location by General George Rogers Clark during his 1812 reconnaissance trip through what is now Detroit area. Eastpointe was then known as Point Edward because it lay on the point where Lake Erie emerged from the Detroit River. At that time there were no towns or villages near present-day Eastpointe due to its remote location on an unincorporated peninsula surrounded by water at high water mark. The first permanent settler in what is now Eastpointe Township was Nicholas Dickson in 1796. Dickson's plantation extended from today's east side of Huron Street along Second Avenue into what are now parts of Southwest Detroit and Southeast Lansing Counties. In 1824, when United States Federal Judge John Hawkins purchased land east of Belle Isle for a new courthouse site he named it "Belle Isle", after his wife Belle (née Livingston). When he died in office in 1827 his estate passed to his daughter Lydia Hawkins who used part of her father's land to create a village called "Hawkinsville". In 1830 Acting Secretary of War Simon Cameron bought 640 acres (250 hectares) along with several buildings including a jail and warehouse from Lydia Hawkins' son Samuel for $3,000 cash plus interest payments over 10 years which totaled $26,600 ($ million today). This donation became known as "Cameron Park". In 1835 Act No 7 Of 35 An act for erecting public squares throughout this Territory authorized Governor James Kintyre to purchase twelve square miles (30 square kilometers) northeast corner lot on Ottawa Road for $4,500 without any condition attached; thenceforward Eaton shall beKnown as Kintyre Square or simply East Pointe Township Site . In November 1840 Anthony Wayne founded Wayne County with land north of present-day Dearborn Heights included withineast point township limits; also partaking therein were tracts acquired by him from David Dixon west line OF Ottawa road bisecting said township Limit

As people bought more firearms, they also needed to find places to keep them all organized. This led to the development of gun racks or gun cabinets. These cabinets often consisted of several shelves where owners could store their weapons and ammunition (Mabee). Gun racks continued to be popular into the 20th century because they allowed shooters plenty of storage space without taking up much room in their homes (Fowler). The modern day pistol magazine evolved out of handgun magazines during World War II when pistols began becoming more popular than rifles (Goudreau). Pistol magazines were designed specifically for handguns instead of rifle/shotgun magazines like those from earlier eras. Pistol magazines typically lasted six issues before being replaced by newIssue model mags which would last about one year before being replaced again. Eastpointe is a city in and the county seat of Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 97,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Eastpointe were French traders and missionaries in the mid-1600s. In 1796, John Butterfield founded a fur trading post on the east bank of the Detroit River near what is now Dearborn Heights. The post served as a center for trade with Indians and other settlers in what is today eastern Wayne County. In 1812, following his purchase of land from the Miami people, George Washington's grandson General Anthony Wayne built Fort Dearborn on an island in river current called Wabash that became Eastpointe. In 1827, Colonel Lewis Cass became one of first American commissioners to negotiate treaties with Native Americans at Big deal Lake near what is now Southgate Township. He purchased 640 acres (246 ha) around present-day Eastpointe from Muskingum County for $5 per acre (2 ha). The purchase included a small town named after him called "Cassville". Cassville grew up around soldiers barracks being constructed there during World War I until it was destroyed by fire in 1919; its site still remains vacant and abandoned today. On July 15, 1839, Michigan Territory was created from parts of Indiana and Ohio when those statesjoined together as part of the Kansas–Ohio Union Treaty regarding western expansion into Mexico territory before becoming independent nations. On August 12th followed by Act No 4356 created Wayne County which hugs along southern border of this territory including much present day Eastpointe including West Point where Butterfield's Fur Trading Post once stood In 1840s Colt revolvers were being produced here but production stopped after US Government found lead use within arsenal These pistols would be replaced with Model 1851’s soon after gun ban enactment However industry would revive again in 1870’s thru 1880’s guns Manufacturing resumed at this point known as 1st National Armory which continued operations until 1907 builtHere also located another Arsenal building known as Eastern Arsenal which housed some artillery weapons manufacturedatum 1908 however all these buildings have been demolished since then leaving only foundation remaining
Eastpointe was founded in 1837 by John Augustus Eaton and his brother, James. This small village on the east side of the Detroit River became a center for fur trade and manufacturing. In 1846, Eastpointe was renamed after George Washington Woodward, who had donated land to the town. The town's first school was built in 1847. In 1865, Eastpointe became a city with its own government and mayor. The city grew rapidly due to its manufactures and service sector; it had one of the highest infant mortality rates in Michigan until the late 19th century. By 1930, Eastpointe had over 100 businesses and 2,000 residents. However, during World War II, steel production plummeted as Detroit's factories were dedicated to war efforts rather than producing civilian goods like clothing or munitions. As a result of this decline in manufacturing, Eastpointe experienced economic stagnation for many years afterwards In 2001, both EastPointe and Dearborn were merged into Wayne County as part of larger regional revitalization effort called "The New Deal". This merger faced criticism from some because it decreased the number of jobs in Dearborn while increasing business opportunities in EastPointe; however, overall it has been successful in promoting local entrepreneurship among its population
