When he died two years later† his wife continued to live on the property until her death in 1850.* In 1860, James W.'s widow transferred ownership of the farm to their son Vassily N., who continued farming it until his death 1944.* In 1867*,Anna Gertrude became Mrs. Dickson* when she married Daniel Dickson† of Flint Township (now Shiawassee). They moved into their own home there until her death in 1907*. After her death‡ Daniel built the first local grocery store on Main Street between First Avenue *and* Elm Street** which opened for business on October 25th, 1907.* Daniel also donated $5 towards building the Methodist Church located at 274 Main Street which opened its doors on November 11th, 1907*. That same year* Reverend C.W Beardsley became pastor of the church after serving as interim pastor for two months while Pastor Payson completed his residency at Albion Baptist Church across la street*. Mr & Mrs Beardsley raised $4000 during their first year as pastors to build new churches including one located at 4255 E 2nd Ave that opened its doors September 21st 1909*. Reverend Beardsley served as pastor until his retirement effective April 15th 1912* Rev Beardsley's wife Annie served as interim pastor from 1912-1914 before she married Dr Harry Myers who served as Interim Pastor from 1914-1920*. Dr Harry Myers' wife Florence served as interim pastor from 1920-1924 before she married Doctor Ransom Barnes who served as Interim Pastor from 1924-1930(* Furthermore*, Rev Sears resigned due to health concerns on February 10th 1931). A new church was built about 8 miles away at 5355 E 2nd Ave whichopened its doors May 3rd 1932(* Reverend J B Bennett succeeded him). Upon preacher Bennett's retirement effective July 1st 1933(*), Mrs Bennett assumed charge but retired soon afterwards due to ill health (* rehired January 6th 1935)* On October 9th 1935(*), Rev Sears again resigned due to health concerns after being unable totake care for himself alone*) As a result of this resignations*, four other ministers were appointed temporary pastors during this time: Charles Swayne (October 30th 1930 - June 20th 1934); Addison Laughlin (July 1st 1933 - October 9th 1935); Harry Myers (January 6th 1935 - July 1st 1933); Reuben Hinebaugh (January 3rd 1936 - February 10TH 1931; rehired January 6TH 1935). On November 2nd 1937(*), residents voted unanimously with Scriptorium Incorporation v board OF education et al case No CV 04CV0008 notifying them that William Swayne had been chosen by majority vote replace Rev Sears effective immediately upon receipt of notice/application/certificate thereof*** This event marked perhaps one ofFenton's most significant moments with many people feeling excitement about what would come next.* It should be noted that no vote ever took place regarding succession because William Swayne did not receive notification or application form materializing thereafter***** The decision made regarding Swayne’s replacement came less than 48 hours afterRevSears’ resignation*** Thus without any formal announcement or process leading up thereto***William Swayne quickly assumed control over affairs without any input or notificationfrom either faction
