Fenton is a small town in Michigania, about 25 miles north of Detroit. It was founded in 1836 by Reuben Fenton and his family. The population was 1,448 at the 2010 census. Today, Fenton is a village with a population of about 350 people. It is located on the shores of the Rouge River, between Lansing and Auburn Hills. The Village has two schools: one public and one private; as well as a post office and several businesses including a gas station, convenience store, hotel and grocery store. Fenton's history began with Reuben Fenton's arrival in 1836 from England. He came to this country to farm land that had been bought by his father before him. After some time he moved into business himself - trading goods such as cattle and flour for goods needed by other settlers in what was then part of Michigan Territory (now Wayne County). In 1839 he built the first house in what is now Fenton Village; it still stands today. By 1850 there were six families living in Fenton Village; four of which became residents of the village itself when it was organized as a township on November 3, 1850 under Michigan law 6892(). In 1865 John Prentice purchased 5 acres (20 hectares) adjacent to present-day downtown Fenton from Reuben Fenton for $1 (). This property would later become known as "The Pier" because it served as an anchorage for ships docking at Lake Erie during the early 1800s when shipping through that body of water required good weather conditions for navigation across its surface—a necessary condition not available from other lakes or rivers due to their size or depth). As word spread about this potential treasure trove, developers began purchasing tracts around The Pier beginning in the late 1800s until all but one corner had been taken up by 1920 (). The only remaining parcel remaining today within Downtown Fenton limits is 2 acres (8 hectares) called "The Square" which borders State Route 4010 on its east side and State Route 4805 on its west side just south of Court Street NW.,situated near where today's Applebee's restaurant locate next door on Naugatuck Avenue NW.. Today’s applebee’s restaurant occupies most of that acreage.. This important event helped define how much downtown #FENTON# has changed since 1860 ..

Fenton is a town in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fenton was named after Major General John Fenton who fought in the Mexican–American War and also served as Superintendent of Indian Affairs for Wayne County. Fenton was laid out in 1837 by George Prentice and James McNaught. The first store opened in 1838 and the first post office was established in 1840. A railroad station became available in 1865, making it possible to market products from Fenton to other parts of Michigan and the United States. In 1870, a library was built on land donated by Jno Copley Kinney and named after his father Rev. Nathaniel Kinney. In 1881, John Dyson set up a tannery near town which remain an important economic engine today for Fenton Township residents as well as others within the larger Detroit metropolitan area; this industry helped create many jobs throughout southeastern Michigan during that time period (Dyson Tanning Co.). In 1904, much development took place due to construction of Saginaw Bay Freeway which ran through town center including new housing developments (Homes were what later became known as "Flowers"). Many businesses closed or experienced decline during this time such as Armour's grocery store which went out of business around 1930 due to competition from local Safeway stores; however some new businesses did emerge such as JanSport field hockey team's home stadium until they moved into their present facility nearby in 1984 when all fields were replaced with artificial turf). One significant event during this time period related to downtown business activity would be when music hall owner Harry Smith stages a two week long country & western concert series dubbed "The Golden Age" beginning on October 15th 1906 headlined by Roy Acuff at Palace Theatre featuring Willie Dixon (one day before Woodward Avenue light rail service began). Fenton was a small town in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States until the early 20th century. The community was located on the east side of the Detroit River between what is now Farmington Hills and Midtown Detroit. It began as a farming community in 1836, grew to about 950 residents by 1860, and declined thereafter. The first post office at Fenton opened in 1840. A sawmill and grist mill were built around 1854; the latter became known as "the uncle of mills" because it supplied many other mills throughout Michigan with their necessary equipment and materials. In 1868, Fenton joined the new Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) of Detroit. The population of Fenton increased rapidly during this time, reaching nearly 1,000 by 1880. However, the economic decline of Michigan during the 19th century led to a decline in population too; by 1930, only 100 residents lived in Fenton. In 1950, it merged with nearby Midtown to form part of the larger city of Detroit.
