The first gun laser was created in 1984 by a team of engineers at the US Department of Defense’s Laboratory for Laser Science and Technology. The weapon was called the LASER GUN and it used a short, fat barrel to project a 2-meter wavelength laser into an area behind the target. The aim was to disable or destroy enemy targets with pinpoint accuracy. A second weapon, also called the LASER GUN, was developed by US Army Research Lab physicist Dr. Shimon Peres in 1985. It differed from the LASER GUN in that it used two long barrels to project a 3-meter wavelength laser into an area behind the target. This allowed it to engage multiple targets at once and its ability to penetrate armour made it more effective against military objectives than earlier weapons. In 1988, Germany’s ZF Friedrichshafen company produced the world’s first operational gun laser system – code named “LOKI” – which could shoot down missiles using smaller lasers instead of large cannons. The weapon had three beams that were directed towards different parts of the target, allowing it to kill individual missiles with pinpoint accuracy. In 1994, Italian manufacturer Leonardo da Vinci Developed their own high power gun laser – codenamed “LOKI-H” – which could shoot down cruise missiles with pinpoint accuracy using just one beam instead of three like other guns lasers combination. By 1998, all major manufacturers had introduced their owngun lasers systems into service; these include Lockheed Martin's 9M133 Harpoon Missile Defense System (MDS), Raytheon's AWACS Weapon Management Console (WMC) terminal/targeting unit for SU-30SM fighter jets (based onceptor), Boeing Corporation's X-41B Advanced Weapons Testbed Aircraft (AWTA), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's HAL Citadel anti-missile launcher based on indigenous Turbomachinery technology (ANTIMISSIL).

Grosse Pointe Park is a public park in the city of Detroit, Michigan. It was founded on October 25, 1884, by a group of business owners and entrepreneurs who wanted to create an open space for people to enjoy nature and each other. The park has since been home to many different types of events, including the Final Four of the NCAA men's basketball championship games and the annual Detroit Tigers baseball game. The first section of Grosse Pointe Park was donated by J. P. Morgan & Company executive John Ponce de Leon. He had purchased land east of Woodward Avenue in what is now Midtown Detroit for $4,000 per acre (1 acre = 100 feet2). The company had built its own mansion there but sold it in 1881 because it became too expensive to maintain and expand again rapidly when new technologies made living in cities more affordable. In 1886, Grosse Pointe Park was opened to the public with a total area of just under 2 square miles (5 km2). It contained only a few hundred acres (100 hectares) out of a total area that would eventually be around 12 square miles (30 km2). Today, Grosse Pointe Park covers 4square miles (10 km2) with over 1 million residents spread across various parts of its sprawling campus: eastern side; central side; northwest corner; and southern edge. One important aspect that has kept Grosse Pointe Park thriving over time is its large number of playgrounds and sports fields as well as its comprehensive programming which includes concerts, family activities, art exhibitions and meetings for local government bodies like city councils.

Detroit Mayor James Cox recommended that Grosse Pointe Park be dedicated as a national monument in 1937 to commemorate the city's role in America's automotive industry during the1930s and 1940s. On July 10, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized designation as a National Monument under Executive Order 6239. In 1978, Grosse Pointe Park was designated as one of five Great Lakes Area Parks by then-President Jimmy Carter with support from then-Mayor Coleman Young. In November 1990, Grosse Pointe Park underwent major rehabilitation following a storm that damaged parts of it over several weeks. The renovation cost $27 million and included installation of new sidewalks, lighting, water systems, benches/chairs/sellouts throughout the park proper as well as added areas near Dutchtown Creek which serves as an overflow area during events at nearby Greektown Casino & Resort.. In 2000–2001 work began on adding new amenities such as basketball courts (replacing old bleachers), playgrounds (including two intramural fields), golf courses (two being built specifically for children only), restaurants (including Subway sandwich shops), skating rinks (four being built specifically for children only) and more than 350 multi-use trails totaling more than 2 miles (.3 km).
