After World War I, Winchester began producing small arms such as handguns and rifles. They also started producing shells for naval gunfire use. In 1923, they merged with Remington Arms Company Ltd., creating one of the largest rifle manufacturers in the world. However, after World War II Winchester decreased production due to competition from imports such as Russian brass (which was harder to produce). Oak Park Armory, also known as the Arsenal of Democracy, is a .45 caliber ammunition plant in Oak Park, Michigan. It was founded in 1881 by Major General John M. Schofield and has been manufacturing ammunition ever since.
Oak Park is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, seat of Macomb County. The population was 30,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Flint–Lansing Metropolitan Area and is served by the Flint Metropolitan Government. The town was founded in 1824 as a small post office on a tract of land patented to Samuel Haines by then-Governor James Kieft. Haines named it for his friend and mentor, General David Denny, who had died two years earlier in an Indian raid near present-day Grand Rapids. (Denny's nephew also settled there.) In 1827, Oakland Township was organized from parts of Muskegon Heights and Waterford townships; its first resident was John Sutherlin. In 1828, settlers began arriving in large numbers from what is now Racine County via the Ottawa River valley: they called their new settlement " Oak Park." The first school opened in 1830; three years later, a courthouse and jail were erected on what are now Main Street and Clinton Avenue. This area became known as "The Village" because most residents built their homes there orchards and farms stretched across several blocks east of State Road 806 (now First Street). In 1835, when Fort Wayne became one of the ten United States possessions acquired by Mexico following its victory over American forces at Lake Erie during the Mexican–American War, Oakland Township voted to secede from Michigan but rejoin the country as soon as possible due to its lack of representation in Congress under President Andrew Johnson's administration (). However, this decision met with resistance among some residents who saw themselves as having been betrayed by their friends within Michigan's Democratic Party - only 10% or so of whom had actually left for Mexico City until after Johnson took office(). Ultimately it did not come about -Oakland Township rejoined Michigan when that state joined the Union on January 1st , 1861 (). It wasn't until 1840 that oak trees were planted along Second Street between Clinton Avenue and Main Street – becoming definitive evidence that this area had become truly urbanized since incorporation into Detroit Municipal Borough just four years before! Over time other streetscapes followed suit: Corktown Rd., Willow Grove Ave., Elmhurst Blvd., Harrison Ave., Highland Glen Dr., etc.; each serving differentresidential areas within various neighborhoods throughout Downtown Detroit today...Today we still enjoy rural scenes on Woodward Ave.; Dodge Rd./Chrysler Pkwy.:and Irish Hill Drs.: while many residential buildings have been replaced with high-rise condos or apartments using sustainable building materials like glassblock or recycled aluminum siding

Oak Park is a village in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the eastern edge of the city of Detroit. The population was 21,587 as of the 2010 census. Oak Park is part of the Grand Rapids–Wolverine Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was organized in 1875 from portions of Oakland and Farmington Township. The first settler in what would become Oak Park was John Ferguson, who arrived in 1868 from Ireland with his family and land grant from the United States government. In 1870, he married Amelia Cook and they founded a farmstead called Cooksville on what is now Maple Street between Cass and Woodward Streets in downtown Detroit. In 1875, Territorial Governor Abraham Lincoln announced that all lands east of $30 per acre (about $2 peracre at that time) were to be sold to settlers for development into villages or townships; Oak Park received its charter from Lincoln on July 1, 1875. It had a population of just under 100 people when it formed its first governing body: a board of trustees made up each township's president and two other citizens voted on by their respective trusteesMeetings were held monthly with reports back to the township presidents for approval/modification before taking actionA post office opened at Cooksville on December 12, 1876And soon enough residents were buying property further west along Maple Street towards Cass Avenue – including parts now within Tiger Woods Golf Course & Boulevard du Garde Casino
Oak Park was first settled in 1836 by John and Betsy Ford. The town was named for an oak tree that stood near the original site of the town. The family started a grocery store and post office in the town. They also built a log cabin on their farm which is still standing. In 1854, the family donated land to form what is now Oak Park Township. In 1865, James Kinsman settled in the township and opened a tannery. In 1870, Oak Park had its first school, which was constructed on land donated by Mrs. Kinsman. After several years of construction, it opened and served students until 1915 when it was replaced by a new building that is still standing today. During World War II, Oak Park turned into one of the most heavily bombed towns in Michigan because of its proximity to Detroit. However, even after the war ended, many businesses continued to operate in OakPark because there were no other options available at that time. In 1960, Mayor Richard Jaffe ordered all schools within city limits closed due to budget cuts but kept those inside ofOakPark while opening new schools within city limits. This decision has been credited with helping OakPark become one of the most vibrant communities in Michigan during that time period
