The history of firearms and flashlight products in the town of Oak Park, Michigan dates back to 1892. The first firearm in this community was a shotgun that fired rounds from a stock made of hammer, nails and hemp. During World War II, Oak Park played an important role in the development of aircraft production at Willow Run Arsenal near Detroit. In 1946-1947, Oak Park also sponsored the America's Cup Races which were then considered among America's most prestigious athletic events. The township has experienced several significant changes throughout its history including becoming a city in 1975 and being annexed by Detroit in 1998; but it retains much of its traditional character including its small town feel with small businesses and residents who are proud of their community ties dating back to beforeigh

Oak Park was founded in 1824 by John and Anna Oak. The town was named for a small oak tree that stood on the corner of Woodward and Ontario Streets. The first post office was established in 1827. In 1830, the Detroit and Grand Rapids Railroad arrived in Oak Park, making it easier to get goods to market. In 1841, the town had only ten residents but it grew rapidly with the arrival of new settlers. By 1865, Oak Park had a population of over one thousand people. The town's growth stopped around 1910 when World War 1 began and many of the town's residents left for safer places. Today, Oak Park is home to a few hundred residents and is primarily known as a bedroom community for Detroit.
