port Huron, Michigan is a city in Marquette County, Michigan, United States. The population was 9,854 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marquette County. The first scopes were built in Port Huron in 1876 by Drs. George and Edwin Baker and Dr. Wm. Huggins. In 1903, Augustus Ewing donated land to build a new observatory on top of his estate in Port Huron which became known as the Augustus Ewing Observatory. In 1937, when Henry Ives Beecham donated an 8-inch telescope to the University of Michigan for use on campus, he also contributed $25,000 to help finance its construction and maintenance costs. The university used the telescope from 1939 until it was replaced by the modern National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) Facility in 1962. The city of Port Huron has played an important role in optics history through its many businesses that have been involved with the production or sale of lenses and telescopes since before they even existed! MIPP operations produced shells for Allied forces in Europe and other items such as bombs and aircraft parts that aided victory in war. The local economy benefited greatly from these activities while also becoming an integral part of NATO's Cold War defense strategy. In recent decades, Port Huron has become home to some world-renowned companies including Mack Trucks Company (founded here), Delphi Automotive Systems Corporation (Delphi), Northrop Grumman Corporation (Northrop Grumman) and Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler). These companies have presence throughout downtown as well as across several neighborhoods within walking distance of their workplaces or research facilities. Additionally, many local businesses have been selected to participate in downtown revitalization initiatives which include new hotels/motels/restaurants/spaces for cultural events as well as expanded public transportation options like bike lanes and pedestrian crossings along streetscapes that are attractive to pedestrians and cyclists alike

The town of Port Huron was founded on the Keweenaw Peninsula in 1824. The town grew quickly, and by 1830 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1835, the territorial government moved from Detroit to Lansing, Michigan, and Port Huron became part of that municipality. It remained an officially incorporated town until 1794.
